"Marnie, have you seen my mascara?" Macy yelled loudly from our shared bathroom.
"No," I replied bluntly, pulling on my tatty black converse.
"Where could it be?" She thought aloud, sighing.
"Does it really matter? Just hurry up, we need to go," I huffed as I slung my rucksack over my right shoulder.
"I can't go to school without having super long lashes. That is completely out of the question!" She stated matter-of-factly while leaning against my door frame. She is so girly sometimes. Seeming to have found her mascara she applied it with swift hand movements once she'd returned to her original position in front of our huge bathroom mirror.
"Well if you aren't out in two minutes I'm taking the car and leaving and you can get one of your friends to come pick you up," I called to her as I hopped down the carpeted stairs. I really wasn't in the mood for school today; we had to choose groups for a presentation in History and I wasn't ready for the nightmare I was going to be put with. Luckily, it was last lesson so at least I had the majority of the day to mentally prepare myself for the looming horror.
"Just got to add a bit of gloss," Macy chanted in a sing song voice. Even from my place at the bottom of the stairs I could still hear her mumbling to herself.
"I don't care," I chuckled. "Just hurry that huge butt of yours up before I drag you by the hair down the stairs and in to the car!"
"Whoa there Marnie, a young lady shouldn't speak like that," My mum raised her eyebrows at me as she came out of the kitchen smoothing down her skirt and blazer; ready for work.
"Well that must mean I'm not a young lady then," I gave her the biggest fake smile possible, earning an eye roll from her while my dad chuckled at our encounter from the adjacent living room.
"That's my girl," He said cheerfully, winking at me.
"Don't encourage her Bill, she's bad enough as it is!" My mum scolded placing her hands on her hips, a frown etched on to her face as she glared at my dad.
"She is right here thank you very much," I mumbled, checking my phone for the time.
It read 8:22am.
"That's it, I'm leaving. Bye," I shouted up the stairs. My twin sister came waddling down the hallway in her ridiculously high heels and nearly tumbled down the stairs as she tried to quicken her pace.
"Steady," My dad peered over the rim of his glasses as he looked up from his newspaper at the exact time my sister tripped in to my arms from the bottom step. He gave us a slight wave and a warm smile before we departed out of the five bedroom house and in to our shared white range rover.
I don't know why we lived in such a big house considering Macy and I were the only children my parents ever had. They never wanted any more after the struggle of bringing up twins, especially with such differing personalities like myself and Macy. It was never easy; most twins would agree to dress in the same things up until a certain age but it was a completely different story for us. I would only want to wear dark jeans and shirts, even as a young child, whereas Macy wanted to wear all of the pretty dresses and skirts my mum picked out for us. There were many a miserable day of me having to flounce around in frilly, fluffy dresses just to make my mother happy. This went down well with my sister, of course, she loved all of the glamour. I was always more for comfort and modesty, and I still am.
"I'm driving today so that means I get to choose what music is played," I told my sister as I slid in to the driver's seat, swinging the car keys around my index finger before pushing them in to the ignition and starting the car.
