Layla was sitting at the island in the middle of her and Logan's kitchen deep in thought. They both found an abandoned apartment building and renovated it. They even made some places to hide their gear in. They put them in places that nobody would suspect.
Logan and Layla, or "The Night Hunters" as the media called them, recently went to Phoenix to find the men who killed their parents, only to find that they moved somewhere else. Apparently, they heard that there were some vigilantes targeting gangs and criminals. They ran away to try and throw them off their trail. Both Layla and Logan were frustrated, but they managed to put all the other crooks in jail. They were careful to not kill the people they fought, because then they wouldn't be any better than them. They only killed if necessary. Zima helped with that.
The wolf also helped them interrogate some of the gang members of the gang they were looking for. They had to scare the crap out of them until they finally spilled. The leader and some other members were making their way to Washington, so that was where Logan and Layla were going. They were currently in Portland, so they were close. They would strike when they were ready.
Layla was broken out of her thoughts by something furry rubbing against her hand. She looked down and saw Zima nuzzling against her. She smiled and started petting her, and she eventually rolled over, exposing her belly. Layla started giving her belly rubs.
Logan walked in after grocery shopping. He put the bags on the counter and walked over to Layla and Zima.
"How are you doing?" he asked after he and Layla shared a kiss.
"I would say I was fine but that would be lying." she responded.
He pulled her into a hug, which she gladly returned. "What's wrong?"
She hesitated, but eventually answered. "Today is the anniversary of my parents deaths."
He kissed her forehead and said "Don't worry, we will catch those jerks, and they will get what they deserve."
"I know they will."
They stayed like that for a while, and Zima eventually joined in on the hug. They eventually separated so they could start making their dinner. While the food was cooking, Layla went on her computer. "Huh." she eventually said.
"What?" Logan asked.
"It seems my old friend Bella lives in Forks." she explained to him.
"And you want to pay her a visit?"
She shook her head. "No. I'm not ready to face her. Maybe someday, but not today."
He nodded, and got their dinner off the stove. Tomorrow, they would go to Port Angeles to see what they could find. There would be plenty of people to beat up, and they would probably find a lead on the gang they were looking for. They recently found out that the leader's name was Antonio Rodriguez.
Little did they know, Layla was going to get a blast from the past.
