Bella and Edward were driving around Port Angeles, looking for clues on Layla's with whereabouts. They arrived to where Bella last saw them and got out.

"This is it. Layla threw a smoke bomb so I couldn't see which way they went." she told him.

Edward looked up and said "I think I have her scent. It's faint, but it's there. I also smell a wolf."

Bella beamed and asked "Can we follow it?"

He nodded and they set off.

They pulled up to the abandoned building, which looked like it was falling apart to them.

"Can I go alone? I need to be the one to talk to her. I'll call if I need you."

Edward nodded, respecting her decision even though he did not like it.

Bella set off into the building.

Meanwhile...

Layla was just finishing up her daily exercise. She had to stay fit in order to get the job done. She would usually spar with Logan, but he went out to get a little more information from town, along with some groceries.

Layla took a shower and put her hair into a french braid. She changed into a black t-shirt and put on some black jeggings and black boots. She also put on her leather jacket. (If you saw Black Widow, you know what outfit.)

Suddenly, Zima started growling and looked ready to attack. Layla knew what that meant. Intruders. She immediately grabbed her gun and looked at the security camera she installed. She was shocked to see who it was outside the door.

She retreated into the kitchen and hid. Right as she heard the door open she called out "I know your out there!"

Bella froze as soon as she heard her voice. But she continued into the room.

"Layla it's me. Can we please talk?"

Bella walked toward the kitchen, but stopped when she heard a click behind her. She turned and saw Layla with a gun pointed toward her head.

"What's there to talk about?"

Bella wanted to go over and hug her, but she did not want to spook her. She already looked weary of her. So she held up her hands in surrender.

"Everything Layla. It's been so long."

Layla nodded slightly. "It has."

"Please put the gun down. You don't need it."

She still looked weary. "How do I know I can trust you?"

"Layla, you've known me since we were kids. Do you think I would be able to sneak something past you?"

"Touche." She lowered the gun, but did not put it down.

There was a silence between them, along with thick tension, until finally Layla spoke.

"You shouldn't have come here."

Bella looked surprised. "Why not? Layla, it has been years since I've seen you. Please, we need to talk."

"It is not safe for you to be around me."

Bella sighed. "I know you are one of the Night Hunters. You don't need to keep that from me."

"Yeah, I knew you figured that out. That's all the more reason you need to stay away."

"Layla, I need answers." She all but demanded. She just found out her childhood friend was alive. She was not going to lose her again.

Layla sighed through her nose. "And you will get them, just not today. Now please leave. Anyone could be watching."

Bella stood her ground. "No"

Layla could feel her patience wearing thin. "Still stubborn as I remember. Nice to know that hasn't changed." She muttered under her breath. She looked back up at Bella and raised her gun, surprising her.

"Bella, this is for your safety. Leave now before you get hurt."

"Layla, I'm not leaving-" Layla cut her off.

"You are in no position to make demands." Her voice had a firmness that Bella never heard. "Leave before I make you." She left no room for argument.

Bella was going to protest again, but the look on Layla's face made her stop. That, and she saw a large wolf come up behind her and bare it's teeth.

With a look of defeat, Bella walked out of the apartment. As she left, Layla slid down to her knees and started sobbing.

Bella returned to Edward's car.

"Did you hear that?"

He nodded. "I'm sorry it didn't go the way you wanted."

Bella looked down in sadness. "She just needs time. But she was different than when I last saw her. It was like she lost all of her innocence."

"Time can change someone, and so can people. Just give her space. She will talk when she is ready."

"I hope your right."
