Layla Shaw was nine years old when she met Bella Swan. They were at a playground when they met.
Layla's mother, Brianna, was sitting on one of the park benches reading a book. "Go on and play." she told her. "Ok mom." and she ran over to the swing set, her red ponytail swinging all the way. Layla was a very outgoing girl. She loved to try new things, and was very social so she was good at making friends. She was also very confident and wasn't afraid of a challenge. Once while she was walking around the neighborhood, a bunch of girls cornered her and started making fun of her. Lets just say that the leader of that group walked away with a broken nose.
Layla started swinging on one of the swings. When she was high enough, she jumped off, did a somersault in the air, and landed gracefully on her feet. Layla did gymnastics, and she has been training ever since she was five. She was the best in the class, and her father would sometimes joke about her being in the Olympics. She would do tricks in the class and out of it.
After swinging for a few more minutes, Layla got bored and went over to one of the trees. It looked perfect for climbing so that is what she did. She climbed pretty high, but not too high. Her green eyes swept over the view before. She was on her way back down, when she heard a small voice. "Hello." She looked down and saw a brunette girl who looked a little younger than her. She was looking up at her nervously. "Hi." she smiled down at her and climbed down next to her. "I'm Bella." the girl said timidly. Layla smiled and said "I'm Layla, nice to meet you." while sticking out her hand. Bella smiled back nervously and shook her hand. Layla could tell that she was really shy.
"Do you want to play with me?" she asked Bella, and she looked at her surprised. "Really?" she asked. "Really." and she took her hand and walked her over to the slide.
Bella and Layla have been inseparable since then.
They were always seen together playing on playgrounds or walking around the neighborhood. Both Layla's parents and Bella's mother were happy that the two of them had a strong bond They would even have sleepovers. They mixed together perfectly. Bella was the shy, clumsy one and Layla was the outgoing, graceful one. That made Bella kinda look up to her. Bella and Layla were the perfect pair.
Too bad that friendship would only last a year.

It was Layla's birthday, and Bella was in the hospital from breaking her leg. "I'm sorry I can't be there for your birthday Layla." Bella said from the hospital bed. "It's ok. It's not your fault. Besides, I get to spend some time with my parents, we're going to a carnival." Layla said excitedly. Bella smiled and told her to have fun. She said she would and walked out of the room.
Later that night, Layla was walking out of the carnival with her parents, Brianna and Owen. She was eating an ice cream cone that they bought for her. Owen stopped her and she looked up at him. "Wait here for a moment, okay? Mom and I will get the car." She nodded and said "Okay." And with that her parents walked off.
Layla was eating her ice cream, when she noticed a black car drive up. She thought it was nothing until she saw the window roll down, and a man peaked out carrying a big black gun. She didn't know what was happening, until he pulled the trigger. She wanted to scream, but her lungs were closed off and no sound would come out.
So all she could do was watch as both of her parents fell to the ground.
One of the bullets bounced off of a car, and it grazed Layla's arm. She fell down while crying out in pain. The window of the car pulled up, but she was still able to get a good look at the people in it. The car drove away and she crawled over to her parents. Her father was already gone, but her mother was taking labored breathes. She turned her eyes toward her daughter, who had tears streaming down her face. "Mom." she whispered quietly. "Layla." Brianna whispered back hoarsely. "Be strong." and with that, she breathed her last. Layla fell against her body and started crying.
She was still in that position when the police and ambulance arrived. They covered up her parents and brought her into the ambulance. At the hospital, she got her arm stitched up while the police asked questions. She told them everything. She didn't even know that Bella was in the next room, and she was also on tears.
Three days later, she was sitting in a court room, and the four men she saw kill her parents were in front of the judge. The lawyer that was defending them asked if she actually saw their faces. "Yes I did." she said. "The windows were down and he had his head out the window." she pointed to one of the men. She saw Bella and Renee sitting in the back, Bella looking at her with an encouraging face.
Eventually, the judge found them not guilty. "WHAT?!" she screeched. "BUT THEY KILLED MY PARENTS!" The judge continued. "You will be put into foster care." Layla tried to run at the men who were sitting there smirking, but two men grabbed her and dragged her out of the room. She yelled the entire time. She looked over at Bella, who was looking over at her. She looked at her with a pleading look, but Bella just sat there. Layla stopped struggling and looked at her shocked.
When she and the two men were outside, they were about to put her in a car, but Layla kicked the one in front of her where the sun doesn't shine. He hunched over and the man behind her got elbowed in the gut which made him let go of Layla. With that, Layla ran away from them, and didn't stop running until she reached her house. She knew they would come for her so she had to be quick. She grabbed a bag and started putting clothes, food, money, and other necessities in there. She was about to leave, when she passed by a picture of her and her parents. She picked it up and put it in her bag. And with that, Layla Shaw disappeared from Phoenix without a trace.
Bella was devastated with the loss of her friend, and thought she would never see her again.
Oh how wrong she was.
Hey guys. I kind of got the inspiration to write this from a movie called 'Peppermint'. If you haven't heard of it, look it up. Tell me what you guys think
