Seven years.
Seven years have passed since Layla Shaw watched her parents die. Seven years since she ran away from Phoenix. Seven years since she met Jackson Raymond and Logan Wilde. And in those seven years, she and Logan have trained non-stop. Ten hours every day, Jackson taught both of them how to fight. Not only that, but he also taught them how to fire guns. Both Layla and Logan trained together, and it got to the point where neither of them could best the other. They were equally matched. They have also gotten closer over the years, to the point where they were inseparable.
On this certain day, Jackson had something to tell them both. Layla and Logan were in the middle of sparring, when he called them.
"Hey guys, can we talk for a minute?"
"In a minute." Logan answered. He went to punch Layla, but she ducked of of the way and punched him in the stomach. She the went to kick him, but he grabbed her leg and threw her over his shoulder. She flipped in midair, landed on her feet, then ran up to Logan. She grabbed his shoulders, pulled herself up, and wrapped her legs around his neck. She went to elbow him in the head, but he rolled over and brought them both down.
"Alright." Layla said. "I say it's a tie."
"Agreed." replied Logan.
Jackson clapped. "Well done, now we need to talk."
Logan grabbed a water bottle and asked "What about?"
Jackson sighed and said "Well, as you both know I'm with the CIA, and they have called me for a mission. In Brazil." Both Layla and Logan looked at him with surprised expressions. "What I am asking is if you want to come. You can continue your training there. I know a guy in Brazil."
Layla looked over at Logan, and he looked back. Neither of them have ever been to Brazil, but it might be a good experience for both of them. So he nodded at her and she looked at Jackson.
"We'll go."
And that is how it went for the next three years. Jackson would take both of them to different countries when he was called for missions. They would learn different things in every country. In Brazil, they learned to drive vehicles in life and death situations. In Japan, they learned their art of fighting. They also learned how to blend into the shadows and get around without being seen. In Nepal, they learned different meditation techniques. In Russia, they learned how to use their different senses in any situation. In China, they learned how to pinpoint someone's weakness just by watching them. They also learned to speak different languages with every country they went to. They even gained a pet.
And in those years, Logan and Layla have gotten closer.
They were sitting on a rooftop, looking over Paris. It was the middle of the night, and they weren't visible in their all black clothes. No word was said between them. Until Logan finally broke the silence.
"Layla?"
"Yeah?" she looked over at him, her red ponytail swaying behind her.
He looked nervous. "I have something for you." he admitted.
"Really? What is it."
He pulled something out of his jacket pocket and showed it to her. It was a silver necklace with a moonstone pendant.
"Wow. It's beautiful." Layla said, amazed by it.
Logan motioned for her to turn around, and she did, allowing him to put it around her neck.
"Where did you get it?" she asked him. He looked sheepish. "It belonged to my mom. I managed to get it after she and my dad were shot. She always told me that someday she would give it to me, and I would give it to the woman who stole my heart. I have held onto it ever since." Layla looked at him speechless.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is that-" he paused, looking nervous about his next words. Layla knew what he was about to say, and she was really happy about it. Logan gained his confidence and said the words. "I love you." he finally said. Layla smiled for what seemed like the first time in a long time. And then, she leaned in and pressed her lips against his.
Logan stopped, surprised, but kissed back eventually. They were like that for about a minute, but eventually pulled away. Layla smiled up at him and said "I love you too." Logan smiled back and they kissed again. They didn't know that Jackson was watching them with a smile on his face. He had a feeling it would eventually come to this. Logan and Layla had each other, and nothing could stop them. They were an unbeatable duo, and they would let everyone know that. They were finally ready to put their skills to the test.
