04: Every Birthday, Every Christmas, Everything I did with you

Levi POV

I found out after 5 days of taking care of Eren that both Grisha and Carla committed suicide the same day that they left.

When the police told me this news, Eren was right next to me, holding my hand.

"Momma....daddy....?" He whispered while tears fell from his cheeks.

I held him close to me while the police continued to tell me what happened and the possibilities on why they did what they did. "I understand now....they asked very deep questions about me protecting Eren with my life. They acted very strange and I could tell there was something wrong. This was my fault. I should have said something" I sadly said to the police. "This wasn't your fault Sir. We're still investigating" one officer said.

"But what's gonna happen to the hospital which belonged to the man?" I asked. "We're gonna have to put it up for sale. No family members are worthy of running it and we don't think you wanna close it down, do you?" He asked.

"You can't sell it....Grisha loved that hospital more than anything.....he worked so hard to create it...." I whispered.

"I'm sorry Levi, but no one else can run it"The officer said.

"I'll run it!" I yelled. "Your no doctor, you didn't even study finance. You cant run it, I'm sorry. Have a good say sir" He said before leaving me and Eren there.

"It's okay Eren.....It's okay....I'm here for you, and always will be....." I said trying to hold back tears so I could be strong for Eren." You promise me one thing Mr. Levi....?" Eren asked.

"What is it?" I asked. "Let's make a pinky promise, that we'll never leave each other" He smiled with tears still falling from his cheeks. "Alright.....we'll never leave each other" I smiled slightly.

Ever since that say......

Eren and I have gotten even closer to being family.

I raised Eren like I saw Carla and Grisha doing it. I cooked Eren food whenever he felt hungry, gave him baths, I did everything for him. I even played with him in our backyard like Grisha used to do even when he was busy.

"Hey Levi....thank you."

"Why are you thanking me? All I did was buy Eren an air conditioner"

"No, for being here, for him...."

"I didn't understand, but I guess you are like that grisha, huh?" I whispered to myself outside in the yard while looking up at the sky. "Mr. Levi...?" Asked Eren. "Oi! Aren't you supposed to be asleep? You have school tomorrow" I said. "You sound like my mom" He smiled. "Sorry, do you wanna sit with me?" I asked him. "Yes please" he said sitting on my lap.

We spent some time looking up at the sky together and wondering if they were watching over us.

"Happy birthday Eren, how old are you, 7?" I asked Eren. "Mr. Levi! I'm 7 now!" He yelled excitedly. "Here" I said handing him a small box. "A necklace?" He asked. "Its made out of gold, so it won't get ruined. But in the inside is a picture of you and your parents. That way you'll never forget how amazing they both were" I said. "Mr. Levi, do you still remember our promise?" He asked.

"Yes, we'll always be together" I said making that same pinky promise.

"Merry Christmas Mr, Levi! Wake up! It's time for presents!" The brat said jumping up and down on the bed. "Tch, I told you to wake me up gently, Eren" I said still tired.

"I know, but I'm so excited! I got you something too!" He smiled.

"Alright....." I said getting up to brush my teeth.

I walked to the living room and found Eren excitedly holding something from his back. "Here!" He said nervously. "What is this?" I opened the box to find a similar necklace inside. "Look inside!" He said.

I opened it and found a picture of us inside.

"So you never forge our promise" He smiled.

I started tearing up at this moment. "What?! You don't like it....? I'm sorry Mr. Levi...." Eren sadly said.

I held him tight in my arms. "It's not that....I love it....and you....brat...." I whispered.
