Percy took a step back in shock. "W-what? How?" He asked. Elvira sighed, "They must've tracked us back here. We were all asleep when they attacked. We lost many weres, it made Alpha mad. He attacked the leader, another hunter shot him multiple times. One got him in the neck where the life giving artery for wolves and dogs is. He collapsed. The leader whistled and the hunters left.

We sent Taylor and a few others to track them back to camp." She turned around and continued what she was doing before so Percy couldn't see the tear trickling down her cheek. "H-he said one last thing before he died." She sniffed. "Percy is the true alpha. T-then he was gone." She wiped a tear from her face and walked away, unable to continue.

A few days later, they had a funeral for Alpha. They carried his lifeless body through the camp, to a grave. He was placed in the grave. Each pack member threw a handful of dirt in. Most of the pack went back to camp to finish the clean up. Percy, Elvira, Taylor and a few others he didn't know their names stayed for a vigil. At midnight, they all shifted, howling a sad song to the sky. A song of pain and remembrance. The rest of the night was silent.

At dawn, they headed back to camp sadly. Zoë called for the pack to gather. "As yeww.," she struggled to use the modern words, "all know, we need a new Alpha. Lilly? Yeww know the ceremony." She gestured to a girl who had been with him at the vigil. She nodded, standing next to Zoë.

"I say these words so the spirit of Alpha can hear us. Perseus Jackson will be the new Alpha of our pack." He stepped forward on instinct. He kneeled on the ground with his head bent down. "Do you promise to be fair and uphold the ways of the Werewolves as Alpha of this pack?"
"I do."
She drew a symbol on his forehead with dirt. "From this day forward, until death comes to you, you shall be known as Alpha." Howls echoed around camp.

"You have until sundown to pick a Beta." Lilly muttered to him. He nodded. "I promise to take care of this pack if it was my own family." He called to them. "Lets finish the cleanup and show those hunters that we are strong!"
