"Alright mom I heard you the first time. "
She really was protective. Most afternoons you had to talk her into even letting you go out. Coming home that night after your discovery, well you supposed she got suspicious to why you'd been so strangely quiet. Now sometimes it's like she was watching you like a hawk.
"Don't be all hours either young lady. I don't want to have to come looking for you." you grumbled.
"Okay okay I won't." you grabbed your bike, taking off. Riding in the afternoon was your stress reliever. A way to forget about the weight of everything and just relax. The car that beeped at you made you stop. You pulled off to the side, searching for some type of insignia. You sighed when you realized what was going on.
"Damn, they made me paranoid. "
Sam knew he couldn't pretend you hadn't seen what you did that night, so he told you everything. Autobots, Cybertron and of course Decepticons. You swore you saw one a couple times, but you realized you were just overthinking. He didn't sugarcoat it either. They weren't like the Autobots, and the unfortunate situation where you would meet one, you could only guess that he wanted you to be prepared.
Getting back on the bike, you started pedaling, a bit distracting. It was a bit immature, but you were avoiding Sam. Whenever you had to leave you always took the long route, just to stay away from his house. It was petty, and it wasn't like he'd meant for you to find out. Everything would have been fine if you'd just mind your own business, but you couldn't help it.
Now you were just...terrified.
"Aliens.."
You felt bad for laughing at some of the theorists out there. If a planet with giant robots exists, who knows what else did. The possibilities, that's what really scared you. The unknown.
"I'm a coward."
Sam was literally your age, but from the way he spoke, he'd already been through so much, yet he didn't seem phased. All you did was find out, and you were already running for the hills. Your gaze shifted when you saw a flash of black and yellow from your peripheral view. You squinted, still steering your bike ahead. Glancing behind slightly, you huffed. You weren't imagining it. Making a sharp turn, you swing down a familiar street. Passing a few houses you realize the car was not far behind.
It went on like that for a while, and when you got to the huge abandoned building, your bike tires screeched as you came to an abrupt stop, facing the yellow Camaro that pulled up right in front of you. You stumbled off the bike, taking steps back. Bumblebee must have noticed your unease, because he started shifting, the gears of the car turning as he stood upright. That form didn't bring you much more comfort, just added to your inner turmoil.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, I promise." The clicking of his radio station always seemed to catch you a little off guard. Another piece of technology you'd probably be paranoid about.
"Why are you following me.." you were beyond scared, and he raised his hands in the air to show no ill intent.
"Optimus said. Keep an eye on her. We have to be safe. Humans can be just as deceptive."
Optimus, another Autobot. Another alien. Your hands were firmly at your sides, and despite your best efforts to seem strong, you were trembling. You hated it, the way you felt now. Helpless, weak, scared. Bumblebee was still gazing at you inquisitively. He took a step forward, and the vibrations ran all the way to your feet, up your body.
You didn't move, felt like you weren't even breathing. He just kept moving forward, and when his hand reached out, you closed your eyes tightly. The feel of metal on your cheek is what knocks you out of your shock. You were so sure he would attack or something. But as you stared back into the glowing blue eyes, you couldn't see even a hint of malice. There was almost affection in his robotic gaze.
"You're pretty." you blinked, and he must have realized what came out the radio. He yanked back his hand so quickly, backing away so crazily that he fell unto his butt. Even when he was down, the radio kept switching.
"Abort, abort mission soldier!"
For a while you couldn't do much as he tried to pull himself together. It was a bit comedic. It's then it really hits you. If he wanted to cause harm, he would have done it by now. He could have at any time.
"He's not gonna hurt me." It is an unconscious thought, but you're starting to realize it's true.
You couldn't even remember why you were scared. The static ramblings made you smile.
"He's...kind of cute."
Bumblebee noticed the smile that was now playing on your lips, and he lowered his hands, titling his head.
"Can we..be friends." you didn't expect him to say that, not at all. Especially after you'd been looking at him like he was some kind of monster, treating him like one too.
"You wanna be my friend?" he nodded excitedly.
"Yes sir." An authoritative voice answered from his radio.
"Friends."
He wasn't a monster, far from it. He may not have been human, but he was still a being with feelings. You understood that now.
"I'd really like that Bumblebee." The glow in his eyes got brighter, and he jumped to his feet, causing tremors to rock the ground. You stumbled, and he reached out to steady you. You grabbed unto his metal arm, and he scratched his head with the free hand.
"Sorry." you shook your head, giggling softly.
"It's okay."
This would surely be an interesting friendship.
