Lan Qiren was a man on patience, a trait that most men of their profession lacked. But for him, having the upper hand of patience gave an extra light to see things in a certain way that most people didn't.

He had been the one to step up to run their organization when his brother and sister in law was brutally murdered by their rivals, leaving behind two tiny little boys in his care, but not once did he left space for a complaint when it came to their upbringing. He was thankful that he had the support of his own childhood best friends, and he was beyond grateful that his friends allowed all their kids to grow up together,

He watched for years as the oldest Lan heir pined after the only Jiang male heir, heart eyes following the boy around despite how gruesome their career was. He watched his youngest nephew growing up to be Jiang Cheng's best friend, watched as the younger Lan fell in love with the youngest of their nest, and for a while.. he was happy..

But then Jiang Yanli's untimely death had changed everything, except he was the only person who believed that time would set things straight, and after many years, it did.. even though the circumstances of how Wei Ying came back to them was heavily frowned upon, he was immensely glad now that the youngest boy had reconciled with his family, it felt as though their family was growing together again..

Or at least that's what he thought as he watched the boys hustled around the lively space, rearranging the room, until his eyes landed on Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng.. the two men who were once inseparable best friends were now pointedly either glaring at each other or carefully avoiding each other, being subtle enough not to alert the smiling youngest man who was animatedly chatting away with a fond looking Lan Xichen,

Lan Qiren shared a sigh with the rest of the tired parents, effectively catching the eyes of his eldest nephew as well as Wen Chao, silently signaling them to come out, the two youngsters asked no questions as Wen Chao politely excused himself while on the other hand Lan Xichen was having a bit of a hard time,

"I will be back in a few minutes a-ying..."

The youngest of the boys only pouted harder, eyes lighting up in mischief a few seconds after,

"Fine... but I want Cheng-ge to replace you until you're back"

Lan Huan huffed silently, trying his hardest to hold back the laughter that was threatening to break out,

"He is still helping the boys though... it'll only be a few minutes at best bub i'll be back"

"No... I really want to nap Huan-ge... please?"

After years of being away from him and possibly the undying guilt that he felt, Lan Xichen could not find himself to deny the younger Wei who was shamelessly using his best puppy eyed look..

"Alright you menace.. A-Cheng? Would you mind? I need to run out for a few minutes"

The two spouses exchanged a quick hug before the Lan heir walked out of the room, letting his husband pamper their younger brother.
