The moment Mayu transferred to Ouran High School on her 4th year, she was immediately interested of the man with rounded-frame glasses seated next to the window. That's why she immediately took the chance and sat next to him in class and asked to be friends with him.

After just a few months, she noticed how Kyoya was never really the type to interact with others, he would immediately be escorted home by his chauffeur after school, he was reserved. At one point, Mayu herself doubted if Kyoya only interacted with her out of pity as she was really onto his bubble or because he had no choice being stuck with a seatmate like her.

One thing's sure though... by being the nosy and friendly ass Mayu was, she vowed to help him enjoy the remaining months of their high school life after concluding that his boring life needed a little spice.

One day.

Mayu was on the way to the clinic as it was a good place to skip class, but as she opened the door, she was met with a half naked Kyoya and a private doctor. Mayu froze on the spot, not because of how stunning, gorgeous, or flawless Kyoya was, but because of a device attached to his upper left side of his torso.

"Sorry!" She panicked and closed the door in a hurry before scurrying back to the classroom as she thought it was a better option to not skip after all.

The sound of the school's enormous bell signaled the end of class. She was busy placing all her stuff in her bag while the others were already outside.

Left inside a silent classroom, Mayu breathes a heavy sigh before standing up from her seat and leaving.

Well...

She was about to leave when the classroom doors opened to reveal Kyoya, the seatmate who was gone the remaining periods. "Uhm... did you forget something?" She awkwardly asks while Kyoya just stood there staring back at her.

Mayu scratches the back of her head, "look... I'm sorry for what happened earlier. I didn't mean to barge in and see you half naked." Kyoya nods his head and heaves a sigh as he passed the still Mayu going to his seat.

"I know you're going to ask anyway so I'll say it now..." Kyoya breaks the silence, staring at the sunset view from the window. "That device you just saw is something that measures my heartbeat." Kyoya continues looking back at Mayu who was already staring at him.

"I have this rare heart disease called KOKUHAKU. Have you heard of it?" Kyoya now sat on the desk still facing Mayu when he asks. Mayu settled sitting on the desk across Kyoya before replying, "Yes, I've heard of it... but didn't it say that there's only a 3% portion of the population who has that?"

"Just my luck, isn't it?" Kyoya responds with a slight smile. He reached inside his pockets and got a small rectangular device and gave it to Mayu. "Now, push the button on that, pointing to my heart." Kyoya instructs and Mayu followed.

Bright green numbers glowed through Kyoya's school uniform.

"That's still a lot, though?" Mayu asks. "Not when time is running too fast..." Kyoya replies as Mayu hands him back the remote. "Everyday it becomes lesser and lesser. Despite coming from a family of the best doctors in Japan, I'm still not sure when I'll leave this world... My time's running out and worse, I'm not even aware when I'll reach the end." Kyoya adds before the glow of the numbers turned back off.

Mayu's heart ached as she was hit with a realization. "So that's why you never attend PE or hang and goof around with the party people. I thought you just liked keeping your handsomely mysterious image."

Kyoya chuckled at what Mayu said. "Thanks for complimenting my looks, but you're wrong. I can't do any extra activities as it just lessens my heartbeat and please... I'm not mysterious. I just don't want to waste energy with people and eventually leave them."

"But why are you telling me this? And fyi, you're already interacting with someone, namely, me." Kyoya laughs at Mayu's sass and Mayu felt her heart beat fast. She thinks that Kyoya's laugh was the most beautiful music to her ears.

"You look like someone I can trust who can keep secrets. Besides, you already saw this device... and you will pry your way into knowing anyway." Mayu raises a brow, amused.

"So yeah, thanks for listening to me Mayumi-chan..." Hearing him call her with a nickname was just everything Mayu never knew she wanted, so when Kyoya glances at his phone and stood up to leave, Mayu stopped him by tugging on his uniform's sleeve.

"I kept this vow to myself because I thought it was my duty as your seatmate and a friend. But now, I'm letting you in my plan." Mayu grins.

"We only have 5 months left until graduation... so uhm... do you want to spend your remaining 5 months in high school with me?" Kyoya lightly smiles at her before she tried to add more context. "I mean, uhm, as your friend, I just want you to enj–" Mayu stopped rambling when Kyoya patted her head.

"No, it's not like that... I'm just kinda happy... you're the first one who said that to me. Usually, other's just eventually leave me alone when I say this stuff." Kyoya reasoned out.

"Well, lucky you! I am not that kind of person. You'll be stuck with me from now on..." Mayu declares before the two of them burst into laughs.

She notices how Kyoya's nose scrunches when he laughs, the way his eyes curve up into crescents, and that way his laugh just might be her favorite sound.

She also notices that, at that point, even if it sounds crazy, her heart tells her that she will do everything to make their remaining 5 months the best.
