"You really are THE superstar." Kyoya finally breathes out the moment he sat down.
"Awwe, thanks for the compliment Kyo. I've done better in the past, but thank you." Mayu smiles at the compliment.
"You were really great out there. You should perform more often that just thrice." Kyoya says as he took Mayu's free hand and intertwined it with his.
"Look, it fits perfectly." Kyoya coos at what he saw.
A tear fell from Mayu's eyes as she squeezes his hand to make him look her way. "Am I really going to regret saying it to you, Kyo? I don't think I will..." Kyo slowly wipes off the tears on Mayu's face.
"Are you really sure you want to open your heart to someone who you know will eventually leave you? ... cause I don't want to hurt you Mayumi... I can't hurt you" Kyoya was also at the verge of tears when Mayu's other hand cupped his cheeks.
"Kyo, you're already hurting me for keeping it to myself." Mayu cried.
"Am I really worth the risk?" Kyoya asks as he kisses their intertwined hands making Mayu smile at the action. The latter fixes the former's bangs before kissing Kyoya's forehead.
"You are worth every beat of my heart, Kyo." Mayu reassures.
Kyoya leaned his forehead to Mayu's as he whispers, "I love you" ended with a seal of the other's lips.
Magical. Like floating on cloud nine. That's what the both of them felt like during the kiss. Nothing can even remotely describe how heavenly and perfect the moment was or how soft Mayu's lips were pressed on his.
With them in each other's embrace, they wished that time would stop even for a moment longer.
Breathless with wide lovestruck smiles as they parted. The two were drowning in each other's eyes. "I love you, Ootori Kyoya." Mayu smiles at him. "I love you too, Mimori Mayu." Kyoya replies with a chaste kiss.
Mayu rested her head on Kyoya's chest as they just cuddled on the couch, hands still intertwined. It was perfect.
It was, until a beeping noise fills the entire room.
Kyoya was too damn sure what that beeping was, so he quickly gets the remote from his pocket.
Shock was painted on Kyoya's face when his heartbeat counter glowed a bright green number that was still in the few tens of millions.
"No... it can't be..." Kyoya hesitates but still found the strength to look at Mayu who had leaned her head to the sofa cushion looking back at him.
"I'm feeling tired Kyo, can I rest now?"
Kyoya points the remote towards Mayu and a bright red display of numbers were seen through her white gown.
1,703
"I still have 15 minutes left and I'm glad I'm spending it with you." Mayu weakly says to the worried Kyoya.
It happened so fast. Kyoya was already tearing up as a shaky, "why?" escaped his mouth.
"I told you, you are worth every single beat of my heart, Kyo" Mayu squeezes his hand. "I love you so much and thank you for being the most beautiful and precious memory for every beat of my heart."
Kyoya can see how quickly Mayu is weakening and he can't do anything but be there for her. "I'll be waiting for you there, but for now, I'll be going first, okay?" Kyoya nodded despite his refusal to believe everything that was happening.
Kyoya felt empty as the beeping noises got louder and louder before suddenly stopping. Mayu's grip on Kyoya's hand finally loosened and the silence drowned the room.
All the blissful feeling from earlier was fleeting as the love of his life who was in his arms felt like she's hard to reach.
"You're the one who left, but why the hell am I the one feeling lifeless?" Kyoya hugs Mayu tightly as he cried his heart out.
Lia then enters the room a few moments later. She went closer to Mayu and held her hand for the last time. Lia glanced at Mayu's face and let out a sad smile. "How in love are you to leave this world with a beautiful smile, hmm?" Lia asks, barely a whisper before sobbing.
"No more pain Mayu... and please tell the heavens about our promise. I wanted you to be my personal guardian angel, remember? ...I was serious about that." Lia strained. "Damn, I already knew it... but it still hurts." Was Lia's last cry when the Mimori family doctors finally arrived and took care of her.
For the first time in his 18 years of being alive, Kyoya grieved so much while thinking of Mayu and how she was able to give up the world and her life to be with him for even a beat longer.
Mayu didn't just make the last 4 months enjoyable and memorable, but she made the rest of his life worth living for.
