"For us, the storm has passed... the war is over. But let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return. For their decision required courage beyond measure; sacrifice, and unshakable conviction that their fight... our fight, was elsewhere. As we start to rebuild, this hillside will remain barren, a memorial to heroes fallen. They have ennobled all of us, and they shall not be forgotten."

Two Years Before Daylight After Night Incident

Niki watched silently as the Elite controlled Super Carrier began to silently move forwards, up and away from Earth's atmosphere before entering Slip Space and leaving the Solar System. She silently kept her eyes at the quickly darkening skies before looking down and around her.

From the memorial hill, she could see everything. The ruins of New Mombasa and Old Mombasa, the battle torn and desolate city of Voi, and the glassed land that came as a surprising aid when the Flood infested more than half of the African Continent. had it not been for the Elites, Earth would have been lost.

She then turned to face the memorial. The wing of a Pelican Dropship, on it and all around pictures and names of the soldiers that gave their lives, not only during the battle of Installation 00, but throughout the Human-Covenant War.

She could still not believe that it was over. Just like that, the Covenant had been obliterated. Gone, like smoke in the sky.

Niki began to walk back, down the hill where another, much small memorial stood. The ODST flag hung high, fluttering against the wind as she reached into her duffel bag and pulled out a series of pictures, placing them next to a small memorial comemorated for the heroic actions of the ODST Troopers.

"Jervo," she muttered with small pangs of regret for having mentioned his name. "Lived at the front lines, died leading his team to battle. Niki placed the picture of Jervo as she reached once more.

"Jeffries..." She looked at the picture and smirked slightly. "A real coward at the wrong moments, yet brave enough to have faced me. I miss you..." She placed the picture next to that of Jervo before she once more reached into the duffel bag.

"Millan. A hero on all aspects. Never gave up hope on humanity, you always believed every last person should be saved. Those two men you ordered to retreat, they are alive and well thanks to you..." She placed the picture on the memorial before once more reaching in and pulling out two extra things. A group photo of the squad along with the squad's flag. She placed the photo of them all right in the middle before draping the squad flag along with the hundreds of other flags that also hung on the ODST memorial.

She scanned the rest of the memorial. Jennifer, Alice, Brook, Torg, and Tarkov. Under the names she read the words 'Installation 05 no longer your final resting place'.

"I'll miss you guys..." she suddenly smirked lightly as she brushed off a small tear from her face. "Don't forget to go in feet first..."
