Chapter Eighteen:  You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Avoid The Party

“No way.”

Carla rolls her eyes and drops the neon pink monstrosity in her hands with a painful sigh. “Don’t be such a prude.”

“I’m not being a prude. I’m having taste.” I respond sourly.

“Says the girl with a giant cat t-shirt.”

I narrow my eyes at her but don’t respond to the low blow. I love my hideous cat shirt. It’s comfortable and has a cat on it, where can you go wrong. Still I decide to pout and cross my hands over my chest in protest. I may not be a fashion genius but even I know that me wearing a skin tight dress is not a good look for me.

“I told you she wouldn’t go for it.” Sutton laughs from her position in Lou’s desk chair. She keeps just spinning around in it and if I watch her for too long I feel like I’m vomit so I don’t look at her.

“Emmy, come on.” Carla whines, “You’ll look so hot.”

“Or like a hoe on payday.” Sutton adds.

“Shut up.” Carla snaps giving her a dirty look before turning back to me, “Fine. What do you want to wear?”

“Why can’t I just wear this?” I ask, waving to my jeans and t-shirt combo.

Carla lifts a brow, “Isn’t that the same thing you were wearing yesterday at school?”

My cheeks go red and I dip my head. “No.”

“Liar!” Sutton sings.

“Traitor.” I hiss at her making her laugh harder. “Lets me real about this for a second, its not like anyone is going to be looking at me at this part. Which, by the way, I don’t even really want to go to. So what is the point of putting me into something that I’ll look ‘hot’ in? Sounds like a waste of your talents if you ask me.”

Carla’s bright green eyes are wide by the time I end my speech and her mouth is a bit agape. The longer she’s quiet the more uncomfortable I’m getting and the more hilarious it seems to Sutton. She starts spinning in the chair again and I figure its up to me to ask what the hell has the usually mouthy Carla so quiet.

“What?” I ask, squirming in my spot.

“That is the most I have ever heard you say.”

Sutton snickers from her chair, “Yup, our Emmy is a regular chatterbox these days. She’s been making out with my brother like her life depends on it. I think I may even go into the bad influence hall of fame for this. Turning quiet little Emmy into a raging man eating talk-a-holic.”

“Hardy har har.” I drawl sarcastically. “I really don’t want to go.”

“You’re going, End of discussion.”

“Wait, wait, wait!” Carla says throwing her arms up in the air before addressing Sutton while pointing at me, “She’s banging your brother?”

“I’m not banging anyone!” I shout, feeling my face go red all over again. Sutton just had to bring it up didn’t she?

“But she’s been making out with him a lot.” Sutton informs her with a huge grin. “Hell, he bought her a four hundred dollar guitar.”

I inhale too sharply and feel like I just swallowed my tongue. Breaking into a coughing fit I clutch my stomach as I nearly die on Lou’s bed. Yes, we’re in his room because according to Sutton, Calvin’s is uninhabitable and she didn’t want us to go into quarantine.
