6 years later

The toughest years I've ever faced. Hell, living in the Skybox was better than this. Even after a whole year without radiation, Wonkru was stuck in the bunker.

Everything in here has been turned upside down, maybe that was for our own good. Octavia and I tried to shape Wonkru the best we can. Looking at the results, it could be the best result we had. Perhaps, it could've been the worst result.

Either way we are surviving and that's all that mattered.

The crowd of warriors went wild as they circled the fighting pit, watching over their fellow Wonkru fighting for their chance to live. They were desperate to win, trying their hardest to be the last man standing.

Jackson approached me with a worried face, 'Y/N, you need to stop this.'

'Why should I stop these criminals from punishment?' I replied.

'Because Kane is fighting in the pit. You know you don't want that.' Jackson grabbed my hand. 'Octavia won't listen but I know you will. He's your family.'

Swiping my hand away, I eyed him. 'Marcus Kane is not family. He betrayed Wonkru and he chose to be the enemy of Wonkru. This is the price he has to pay. You know that.'

Two of the four criminals have fallen as Kane and another warrior fought their possible final battle. Jackson stood still, knowing that there wasn't anything else he could say to sway my decision.

Then a loud scream echoed through the fighting pit as Kane fought off his last person. He breathed heavily, looking up at us as the crowd booed his performance.

'Did Marcus Kane earn his freedom, Blodreina?' Gaia asked.

'Hm, I'm going to have Skafaiya determine his fate.' Octavia said as she turned to me and smirked.

I looked down on Marcus as he kneeled on the battleground with bloody hands. Making eye contact with me, his eyes started to show tears.

With my fist balled up, I shouted. 'Marcus Kane fights again tomorrow.' The rest of the Wonkru warriors surrounding the fighting pit cheered as they heard that Kane had to battle once again.

Turning around, I exited the arena and walked away. 'Y/N!'

'What do you want?' I noticed Jackson's voice calling for my name.

'Why are you making him fight again? He was the last one standing.'

Stopping to walk, I faced towards him. 'He had the crowd going until he hesitated to stab the warrior. He showed fear and therefore he goes again. You know how the fighting pit rules are, why are you so intrigued today?'

'Because it's Kane.' Jackson starred at me with a sad face, 'Your family, someone you rely on. He's like a fath-'

'I haven't relied on Marcus for 6 years. He is not family and he is definitely not my father. The difference between my father and him was that my father never pretended to care.'

'Y/N, lets rethink this. He was able to fight off these warriors but what if tomor-'

Stepping closer to Jackson, I tried holding my anger in. 'I said what I said. He fights tomorrow and I'm sure Octavia will agree with me too. Stop defending the criminal or I'll throw you in there myself too.'

With Octavia and Indra by my side, we walked to Marcus' holding cell. While Indra and I waited by the door, Octavia approached him.

'You almost had it yesterday.' Octavia commented on the fight Marcus won. 'If you do me a favor, I'll let you go tonight.'

'And what is that?' Marcus questioned.

She sat next to him, 'Tell me who stole the medication. We both know it wasn't you.'

He sat still with his hands over his face, sighing. Octavia starred at him for a while then continued to persuade him, 'You shouldn't have to fight if you didn't commit any crime.'

'You kept us strong, alive, well and I'm proud of you for that Octavia.' Marcus ignored the question and praised her. 'What happened during the dark year that you and Y/N-'

'One more word about the dark year and I swear-' Octavia cut him off, her tone of voice changing to anger.

'That me and Octavia did in the Dark Year, eh?' With a straight face, I stomped into his holding cell. 'Enlighten me, Marcus. Why are you defending this asshole that took our precious medication? When you couldn't even be there for us?'

Realizing my voice, he quickly turned to me. 'I tried to be there for you guys but I couldn't.'

I chuckled, 'You're lousy as a liar as you are fighting in the pit.'

'Monkey, you have to believ-'

Biting my lip, I tried keeping all all the rage I had inside. Hearing the nickname he has been calling me all these years had my blood boiling. 'It's Y/N or Skafaiya to you, traitor.'

'Skafaiya, huh.' Marcus got up from his seat and stood in front of me. 'Princess of hell. Is this what we really want? What you want?'

'It doesn't matter what I want or what we want. We survived and we still are, that's what matters.'

He shook his head. 'It was for survival, yes but you lost your way. Octavia and I did too, we all did. The arena, the killing it's all outrageous.'

'Funny how you didn't say that the last 6 years and now, going into the pit you mention it.' I crossed my arms.

'Y/N, what would Bellamy say?'

Pulling out my knife from my boot, I gripped it tightly and placed it right on Marcus' neck. 'Mention his name again and I'll promise you, fighting in the arena will be the least of your problems.'

Octavia tapped my shoulder, 'Y/N. That's enough.'

'All I see is pain in your eyes.' Marcus looked right in my eyes, 'I'm sorry for whatever made you like this.'

'We're done here.' I glared at him and turned my face away.

Before I exited the cell, he spoke once more. 'I'm not fighting.'

Octavia raised her eyebrows, surprised. 'You know the rules if you don't fight.'

'Again, I won't fight.'

Indra looked at me then mouthed, no. I knew she tried to defend Marcus because of their friendship, but I didn't care. He was enemy of Wonkru.

'Then you die.' I said without hesitation before I left the cell.
