"Attention paladins, due to a change in plans, Kolivan will be at the castle in about three vargas to retrieve Keith." Allura's voice projected from the speakers distributed around the ship.
Keith forced his eyes open, immediately feeling the stiffness in his back.
A few feet away, Lance groaned, pulling a pillow over his head.
"Get up, I'm leaving soon." Keith stretched himself out, kicking the pile of coverings off of his legs and chest.
"I thought you were supposed to stay longer." Lance pouted, getting up to join Keith on his way to the dining hall.
"I thought so too, but plans change. I'm gonna go pick up my Blade uniform and meet everyone back here for breakfast." Keith walked pass Lance and went to the laundry room, leaving the red paladin alone.
"How did you sleep?" Allura asked politely, taking her place at the table as she waited for everyone else to show up.
"Okay, me and Mullet fell asleep on the floor so my back is stiff but a little training should fix it."
"Alongside being a mechanic I was also an Altean chiropractor. I can help if you'd like." Coran cracked his fingers, eyes widening a bit at a few knuckles.
Coran shook his hand in pain, forcing a smile onto his face. "Though, it has been awhile since I've done any adjustments."
"I think I'll pass." Lance said, watching the old Altean pop his knuckles back into place.
"Morning Princess, Morning Lance. And Coran? Are you alright?" Shiro sat down.
"Splendid, a few fractures never hurt me." Coran shifted the last bone back into place "Aha!"
"Alright then... oh Keith, there you are. And Pidge, Hunk, I hope everyone got a good night's rest. I'm sure you heard but Keith will be leaving shortly, that means later tonight we'll be on another rescue mission." Shiro explained.
"Already? Keith just got here, I don't want to say goodbye." Hunk frowned.
"I'm sorry but the Blade needs us back, we'll stay in touch until our next visit whenever that may be." Krolia appeared behind Keith, a hint of sadness in her voice.
"Do we have enough time to play Monsters and Mana?" Pidge grinned, quickly checking her watch.
"What?" Krolia gave the same confused expression that the group was so used to from Keith.
"Oh you are so playing with us, let's go." Pidge practically dragged Krolia off to the game room.
"Not a bad idea, it'll be nice to spend time as a group before Keith leaves." Shiro got up to go with Pidge and Krolia, the rest followed along.
"What about breakfast, I'm straving!" Hunk whined.
"You can eat while we play, hurry up!" Lance yelled, running along to meet everyone.
(Later)
"Did I win?" Krolia stared at the board, the forth game having finished.
"Close enough, I'm not sure if there's a proper way to win. I haven't played this before today. " Keith fidgeted around with the dice.
"Wanna play again?" Shiro restarted the board.
"I swear to the ancients, if you choose paladin one more time-" Coran huffed.
"I'm afraid Kolivan will be here any dobosh now, we should be ready to greet him." Allura got up, brushing off her skirt and going to the main entrance.
Lance's heart felt heavy watching as Keith left the room to go to the main entrance with Allura.
By the time they were there, Kolivan along with two other masked Blades stood in the lounge. His face as serious as always.
"Hello Princess" Kolivan gave a quick bow to Allura and turned to Keith.
"Say your goodbyes, we must leave soon."
Keith nodded and began heading down the line of his friends. First was Shiro.
Shiro whispered some quiet words to Keith, leaving him with a smile. They hugged before he moved down the line to Pidge and Hunk.
The two cried, engulfing Keith in an air restricting embrace.
"We're gonna miss you man." Hunk sobbed.
"Stay safe. If you see Matt on any of your missions, please tell him I said hi." Pidge tried to rub away the glassy coating from her eyes but it didn't work too well.
"Take this." Hunk shoved a bag of goo cookies into Keith's hands.
"Thank you, I'll be sure to call after my next mission if things are safe. If I see Matt I'll tell him hi too." Keith smiled, trying not to get teary eyed as well.
After squeezing his way out of the hug, he reached Allura and Coran.
When their goodbyes were complete, Keith was met with the end of the line.
Lance.
"Keith I-" Lance chocked up, wiping his face across the sleeve of his green jacket.
"Hey, don't cry. I'll be back before you know it." Keith went in to hug Lance, which felt odd since he wasn't used to being the one to start a hug.
"Sorry, I know you will. Just don't get hurt while you're out, okay?" Lance cleared his throat, returning the hug.
"No promises." Keith laughed softly.
"Don't pull that shit Kogane. When you come back, I expect you to be in one peice."
Keith pulled away, looking as if he just remembered something.
"And Lance?" Keith looked over Lance, debating his choices.
"What is it?" Lance looked down into Keith's conflicted violet toned eyes.
Keith sat his hands down on Lance's chest and gave him a rushed peck on the cheek.
"You better not ignore me when I get back."
Keith didn't stand around to wait for a reaction, he just pulled away and jogged over to Kolivan's ship.
"Wait up a minute!" Lance yelled, face as Red as his lion.
As the doors shut, Keith waved and slipped back behind Krolia and Kolivan.
"What the quiznak just happened?" Hunk questioned, watching Kolivan's pod leave.
Everyone's mouth was agape, and Lance had it the worst. His hand rested on the cheek Keith kissed and his knees wobbled like he was going to tip over.
"Well, that was unexpected." Shiro chuckled, happy that Keith finally tried something.
"Rivils huh?" Pidge went over to Lance and gave him a friendly flick on the forehead.
"I need to go somewhere, I'll be back later." Lance turned away to rub were Pidge flicked him.
"Where to?" Allura questioned.
"I just need to go talk to Red, I'll be back for drills in a little bit."
Lance hurried off, trying to wipe the dumb grin he had away before anyone noticed.
