A few weeks later
Kitty POV: I sigh as I sit down for breakfast.
"Nightmares?" Jane says, putting a plate down in front of me. Anne walks in talking to Lina who was groggily nodding along and Cathy trudges in wearing Jane's hoodie.
"Where's Anna?" I ask, looking around. "Anna is my best friend. And it feels good saying friend. Anna is...well Anna is different. She is nice and funny and wants nothing more than to be my friend. She makes me get butterflies in my stomach and stumble over my words. Wait do I have a crush on Anna?!"
"Yes you idiot gay" Cathy grumbles, sipping her coffee.
"Was I thinking out loud?"
"Yes" Jane says, kissing Cathy's forehead. They'd just started dating and were so cute together.
"I heard her crying upstairs" Anne says and I get up.
"I'll go talk to her" I walk upstairs to Anna's room and knock on the door. I could hear muffled sobs so I walk in, finding Anna curled up in the furthest corner of the room crying and rocking back and forth, clutching her hair.
"No please no. Leave her be. She's still a kid. Please. Divorce me if you want. Just don't touch her!" Was she still asleep? I walk over and kneel in front of Anna.
"Anna. Anna hey. It's okay"
"N..no. No please. Please..."
"Anna it's me. It's okay. I'm here. I'm safe. He's dead. He's gone" I gently touch Anna's shoulder and she jumps before looking around, breathing heavily.
"It's okay. It's okay. Want me to bring breakfast up?" Anna just nods and I help her up and back into bed, leaving and coming back with food and tea. Anna loved tea. With honey, lemon, sugar and milk. Anna just nods in thanks and sits back eating and drinking her tea.
"I wanna go home"
"Home? You mean to Düsseldorf?" I say gently and Anna nods.
"Not forever. Maybe for a week. But I'm scared of going alone"
"I'll go with you. And let's make it two so you'll get more from it" I say and Anna looks at me.
"You will?"
"Yeah!" She grabs her laptop and buys 2 tickets for a trip to Düsseldorf. Two weeks. This would be pretty fun. She was smiling a little, a slight twinkle in her eyes.
"I like seeing you this happy" I blurt out before I can stop myself.
"Really?" Anna asks and I nod.
"You have a really nice smile" I say, feeling my face heat up.
"You have a nice smile too" Anna says and I catch sight of my reflection. I was completely red. All the way down to my neck. At least it made my scar blend in. I reach up tentatively to touch it. It felt weird. And it hurt. A burning sensation almost.
"Hey. I was gonna wait for tomorrow for your birthday but I made you this" Anna says softly, putting a box on my lap. I open it and inside was a choker with sparkles and a K on it.
"Y...you made this for me?"
"I've noticed how you try to hide the scar with your hair or clothes. And it's getting kinda warm now and I thought this might be more comfortable than a turtle neck in summer" Anna says and I smile.
"Can you help me put it on please?" She nods and puts it on me, being as careful as possible.
"Hey Wanna go to the shops tomorrow and you can pick out another birthday present?" I nod hesitantly.
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. It'll be fun!"
"Okay then" I say, turning around and smiling at her.
