Today was the day. Michael comes home today. I have been busy all afternoon to clean my small little house and make it spotless, along with also preparing dinner. I soaked the ham in the Coca-Cola earlier today then put it in the oven to cook, then I peeled the potatoes and sliced them into sections and put them in the skillet, next was the green beans they were easy I just open a can and dump the contents in. I stopped and admires my good and hard work I just did, the house was clean with no speck of dust on any of the shelves, the windows were finger print free and the carpet vacuumed. And the aroma of ham and potatoes just contributed to the fulfillment I'm feeling. I looked up at the clock hanging on my wall, the time was 4:00 o'clock p.m. their flight gets in at 5:00. As I thought that my belly did a flop and my chest felt like it was filled with butterflies, its nerve wracking going to pick up my brother and his friend, it felt like my legs were made of jelly as I put the potatoes in the oven to keep them warm for dinner and head out to my car.
At the air port I was a bundle of nerves, I couldn't sit down I kept pacing back and forth waiting, I looked at the clock, 4:50 I would pace to the other side of the room pass some crying kids and a sleeping grandpa then make my way back to the clock, 4:51. I sighed in frustration and in anticipation. I groaned as the clock seemed to have stopped all together, I plopped down into one of the old beat up red waiting chairs, it squeaked and groaned under the pressure, I sighed again and rubbed my eyes.
"Are you alright sweetie?" I dropped my hands and looked over to see the wife of the grandpa sleeping next to her, she looked to be no older than 80 but older than 70, my guess is 75.
"Yes I'm fine thank you just nervous." I smiled reassuringly at her.
"Well why don't you talk about it, it could help." I smiled and was about to tell her about Michael but her husband let out a deep and loud snore.
"Frank!" She slapped his chest. "Get up you are snoring and being rude." She chastised him, Frank snorted awake and rubbed his eyes.
"I'm'a wake, I'm'a wake. You don't have to hit me ya know." Frank grumbled and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Sorry dear, what were you about to say?" She smiled, I giggle a little before I began to explain.
"My brother is coming home from the army today and I haven't seen him in a long time, so I'm just excited."
"Oh! How exciting! Frank, did you hear her or are you sleeping again? Frank!" She yelled, people began to look over at us and the commotion she was making.
"Jesus Lucy, I hear her. But know I can't hear anything after you yelling at me. I think I've gone deaf in my left ear now." He said as he rubbed it.
"Oh please Frank, don't over exaggerate things. And that's just wonderful for you, I'm so happy for you." As I was about to thank her I heard the voice over the intercom announce that the 5:00 o'clock plane has landed. I quickly got up to my feet and made my way over to the glass and craned my neck as far as I could, I can see the doors they will walk out of. I waited, holding my breath, my eyes trained on the sliding doors. Then they opened to show two men in camouflage army uniforms coming towards me. My smile broke out on my face and I couldn't stop my legs from running to him, once he saw me running to him his luggage dropped to the floor and he opened his arms wide. I jumped into them circling my arms around his neck with a death grip, my eyes were leaking tears of joy as I sobbed into his shoulder.
"I missed you so much." I cried. I felt his muscles arms circle around me and squeeze me to him like he never wanted to let me go.
"Gosh Lynn, it's been such a long time. I missed you too." I let go of him a little so I could see his face clearly, he has grown handsomer over the years, in height and in muscle. I could tell he was doing the same to me.
"Wow Michael you've change, your no longer the cute little boy I remember." I said as I pinched his cheeks.
"You are right cause I'm a man now." He said as he flexed his arms.
"And you my little sister have grown from the ugly duckling into a beautiful swan." He said ruffling my hair.
"Oh shut up you just wish you could look as good as I do." I said putting as much sass into it, I could see Michael opening his mouth to rebuttal but we both heard an awkward cough from behind us, we turn around and there was the most handsomest, sexiest man I have ever seen.
"Oh right sorry, Lynn this is my friend, Anthony. Anthony this is my sister Marilynn." We both smile politely at each other and held out our hands.
"It's great to finally meet, Marilynn." He said, I felt like I just melted into a puddle.
