Dressed in camo, hidden. Mikey pushed his glasses up and brushed his hair from his eyes. He was staking out the location of the most recent unicorn sighting in his area.

Could they be like normal horses, and be a range of colors? Or am I looking out for a mystical white pony?

Mikey carried this internal dialogue. He had no cell service where he was, making it so he couldn't double check.
He'd been there for hours today alone. He'd been going almost daily for some time now, since he heard of the sightings a few weeks prior. This place had become like a second home to him. He had a nice little camp set up, with feeders with horse food to hopefully lure the cryptid to him.

Time passed. The sun was lowering. More time passed, the long shadows that stood out from the red light of the setting sun caused by light refraction in the atmosphere as the angle of the earth changed slowly faded to be an all consuming darkness of a new-moon night.

Mikey could feel himself fight to stay awake. He knew he should have returned home. It was getting cold. The leaves rustled near him, and he heard a heavy exhale. Had one of the boys found him somehow? Or was it a stranger? He stood up to look around, and that's when he saw a faint glow.

The glow moved up and down, then to the side and began to grow. As he watched it, the bushes before him parted to reveal a gorgeous, sparkling creature. A long nose, long legs, large dark eyes, and a swishing tail. The best part of the creature was the glowing spiral protruding from its forehead. Mikey's jaw dropped in disbelief and he quickly cleaned his glasses on his shirt to make sure he was seeing correctly. This was it! Right here! His unicorn!

Hello Mikey.

The creature's mouth didn't move, though it swiveled its head so one of its eyes was staring into Mikey's.

It's so good to finally meet you. I knew you'd be coming.

"Y-you knew?" Mikey was in shock. It was speaking to him! "But how?"

That, my friend, is none of your concern. You should wake up.

"Wake up?"

Yes. Wake up. Wake up, Mikey.

Suddenly it was morning. Sun was cast across his face and made him squint.
No! It couldn't have just been a dream!

Mikey rolled onto his side and sighed. Opening his eyes once more to the light, he saw a weird rock...with hair...and...it was a leg of an animal? He looked up, and there was the unicorn, looking exactly the same.

He started to get up again, but before he could, the beast huffed in his face and took off.
"No!" Mikey called for it, getting to his feet and following for a few places. "Come back! Dammit!"
