Levi held the door open for me as we exited Erwin's room. We strolled in silence down long and empty hallways, absorbing the information we had just learned. Titans were humans? I couldn't wrap my head around the idea of it. Levi was visibly shaken too... he had killed so many in his years of being with the Scout Regiment. I could only imagine how he feels.

We stopped just before his office and my heart skipped a beat, remembering what happened the last time we were in this room. Levi opened the door for me, letting me inside. Captain offices weren't much different than the dorms. They just had the luxury of privacy. Levi's office was a decently sized room with a bed against the far wall. A smaller desk occupied the center of the room. Towards the other wall was a small fireplace with a couch facing it. Bookshelves lined the unoccupied wall space near the desk. Of course, Levi kept the room spotless. Not a single item was out of place. It's a nice living space for someone who doesn't carry out meetings or get togethers. It was...cozy.

I glanced over to the fireplace to see a small flame still flickering, trying to stay alive from the night before. Walking over, I knelt down and added some nearby firewood to breathe new life into the flame. Before long, the fireplace roared with a healthy fire, heating up the room in the process.

Levi sat onto the sofa with his legs crossed and an arm draped over the back. I quietly took a seat on the far end of the couch, staring into the now lively fire.

"Well, shit..." Levi sighed, "after all this time... to find out Titans are possibly humans."

I sat quietly to listen to him.

"What a sick fucking joke,"

The crackle from the fireplace filled the silence between us. I wasn't sure what to say, really. In a sense I was feeling the same he was. It was just so hard to believe. We were trained to kill these monsters without question. We were taught that Titans were the enemy, the very reason that humanity was on the brink of extinction. We'd risk our lives with every surveying mission trying to understand the enemy only to find out that they are human beings?

"Can I ask you something?" I murmured, pulling my knees up onto the couch, sitting with my back against the armrest. I was totally facing him now, though he sat on the opposite end of the sofa. He cocked his head towards me, waiting for me to ask my question.

"Why did you join the Scouts?"

Flashbacks of when he asked me the same question back in the castle rushed through my head. I realized I had told him nearly everything about me, yet I knew so little about him. Still, I couldn't deny the feelings I had. He was the only person to ever take a genuine interest in me and where I came from. Who I am. I needed more of him.

His eyes closed like he was contemplating what to say. Several moments went by before I heard him let out a quiet sigh.

"To kill Erwin..." he answered plainly. His tone was as expressionless as ever.
