Over the course of the next couple of months, I slowly begin to purchase equipment for my business and lock it up in a storage unit. One of the shops opened up for rent downtown and I applied for a yearly lease. With Momma and Dom's help, I got things set up quite nicely inside.
I decided to name it Maggie's Confections and Catering. I cut back to part-time every now and then at the bar against Dom's wishes. I wanted to have income to fall back on in case it didn't pickup initially. Dom didn't want me to stress out about it. My focus became all about the business and less and less about trying for another baby. My plate was full.
The grand opening day finally arrived, and I had made all of my biggest sellers and had a menu of catering for the customers. I made sure to put Grand Prize Winner of Forrest County Fair Cupcake Competition on my window so people would see it.
Much to my surprise, I was swamped. My business was booming, but it was a lot of hard work the first couple of years. I hired Momma to help me and she was more than happy to quit nursing. I hired a couple of girls to work the front as well. I was so busy that I also had Dominic quit the bar and work for me full time. I needed someone to do maintenance and an extra hand in the front with the customers.
After the business took off, I no longer needed to pick up shifts at the bar. Things were running very smoothly, and everyone in town was very supportive.
Fast forward six years, I was catering for all the events in town and had plenty of business to keep us afloat. We were making good money, so Dom and I decided to buy a house. He was cancer-free, but we still were not having any luck getting pregnant. I thought that maybe it wasn't in the cards and began to look into adoption.
Dom insisted we go get checked out for any infertility issues first. I set up the appointment and w went to see a specialist. As it turns out, Dom had a low sperm count, so we decided to do a round of IVF. It was costly, but we weren't getting any younger, and I was really feeling the urge to try again. So, we did it, and then we waited. I told myself that whatever happens, happens and that I would try not to allow myself to get discouraged.
A couple of months after the initial treatment, I woke up one morning feeling nauseated. I rolled off the bed and darted for the bathroom as everything I ate from the night prior came up. I began to smile. I just felt like it worked, and not to mention I haven't had my period either; that was a good sign.
I brushed my teeth and strutted into the bedroom to find Dom is sitting up in bed smiling, "I think we need to get a test, Dom!"
He smiles and rubs his hands together excitedly, "I think you are right!"
He hops up and stumbles to the bathroom, "I'll grab a couple from the drug store."
He strips his boxers off and starts the shower. I walk in as he climbs inside, "Oh my gosh, I can't help but be excited!"
He peeks around the shower curtain, "Me too. This is long overdue. I am getting much older and want to get our family started. We are doing well now, and we have the room, we have the income, there is no need to delay any longer."
"I agree," I tell him.
He smiles and closes the curtain, "I will be done shortly, Bella."
I walk out of the master bathroom and fish through my closet to select an outfit for the day while Dom is in the shower. He gets out shortly after, and then I proceed to get in.
He leaves to grab my tests, and by the time I get out and get ready, he's returned; I rush into the bathroom and take the test. He stands anxiously waiting in the doorway.
After a couple of moments, the test comes back positive. I excitedly cry out and run to him, wrapping my arms around his neck; he lifts me off the ground, "It worked, Dom!"
He belts out nervous laughter, "Oh my gosh! I love you so much, Bella."
I begin sobbing uncontrollably, "I love you too, baby!"
He plants a kiss on my lips, "We will wait to say anything until you get through the first trimester."
I press my forehead against his, "Yes, I agree!'
"Tonight, we celebrate!" he responds.
"I'd love that."
I hurry to get ready and leave for work. Dom is off today, so he is in charge of planning our celebration tonight. Our families will be thrilled to know that we are expecting.
When I return home, he arranges a date night for dinner and a movie. It was nice and relaxing as well as romantic.
A few days later, I scheduled an appointment to see the doctor for my ultrasound, and we are shocked at what we see. We are having twins! This was very unexpected, but we were over the moon. Baby Rossi time two is coming soon!
THREE MONTHS LATER...
The ultrasound tech moves the transducer over my belly. It's warm and wet as it glides over me with ease. I made it past my first trimester, and it was time to see the sex of the babies. I really wanted to know the sex, but Dom didn't mind either way. I'm more of a planner, and he was fine with whatever I wanted.
She smiles warmly at us, "We have baby number one here. Here's the face, the hands, and here's the feet." She says as she moves across my growing belly, "Do you want to know the sex?" she asks.
"Oh yes," I say aloud.
She chuckles, "Okay, this baby is a girl." She says.
Dom and I turn, and both smile at each other, "Here's the second baby." She says as she glides it over my belly and shows me the different parts, "You have another girl."
"Oh my goodness!" I cry out with tears streaming down my cheeks. Dom leans in to kiss me.
"Congratulations, you two. I will print out pictures for you." She says.
Once we leave, we call everyone to fill them in on the news.
