TWO WEEKS LATER...
While Dom and I are cuddled up on the sofa at his house watching television, my phone rings on the coffee table, I lean down to pick it up before glancing at the caller ID to find it's Brie. I answer it, "Hey, Hugh Heffnah."
"Hey, heifer! Seth and I want to invite everyone over for dinner to celebrate our engagement. What day are you off this week?" she asks.
"Oh, I'm off Wednesday and Thursday," I tell her.
"Do you suppose you could come over Thursday? I'm inviting your Momma and Earl too. I'll give her a ring after a bit."
"Oh, okay. What time is dinner?" I ask.
"Is 6:00 p.m. okay?"
I chuckle, "Yeah, that's fine with me. Should I bring anything?" I ask.
She remains silent for a few seconds before answering, "No, we have burgers on the grill with corn on the cob and my homemade potato salad."
"I love your potato salad. Sounds perfect! I'll see you then."
"Wonderful, I'll see you in a few days."
"Okay, bye," I tell her before disconnecting the call.
Dom looks at me with anticipation, "So, is that your friend?"
I lean into his chest and cover up with the blanket, "Yeah, she's having dinner on Thursday to celebrate her engagement. Would you want to go with me?"
"I'm sorry, Bella. I am working that night," he responds.
I begin to pout, "Aww, really? I would love to introduce you to everyone." I tell him.
"I know, my love. I am sorry."
I gaze up at him, "Why are you working so much lately? Hasn't Robert had enough training? You didn't get any training; you just started working and ran that place as if you owned it since your first day on the job."
He chuckles, "Aww.. give Robert some slack. He's much older and may need a bit more direction, but he will do fine. I am just trying to help out, is all."
I bury my head further into his chest, breathing in his scent, "I know. I just miss having the same schedule as you is all."
He wraps his arm around my shoulder, "I am sorry, my love. It is only temporary."
We continue to cuddle on the sofa, watching the rest of the movie before heading out to work later that evening.
TWO DAYS LATER...
Thursday night arrives, and it's the night of Brie's dinner. I kiss Dom goodbye and leave his apartment en route to Momma's house. Myself Momma, and Earl decided to ride together since there is limited parking at Seth's house.
The moment we pull into the drive at Seth's, we find that my brother and his family are already there as well as Lori, Brie's mom. We get out of the car, walk inside, and are immediately greeted by Georgia and John Luke. I reach down and pull them both in for a hug," Hello, my loves. I have missed you!"
Both of the kids embrace me, gently squeezing my neck before running over to Momma and Earl. Dylan approaches me, wrapping his arms around my shoulder, "Hey Maggs, you flying solo again? Where's your man?"
I roll my eyes, "He's working tonight, Dylan!"
"Don't get mad. I'm just making sure he's not one of those guys who always bail when it's time to visit with the family." He responds.
"No, that's not how he is at all. He would be here if he weren't working."
Dylan pats my arm, "Awww... I'm just messing with ya, Maggs. What kind of brother would I be if I didn't?" he asks.
