One early morning, Thomas woke from the sheds. He saw the other engines were asleep. Percy yawned and woke up.
"Good morning, Thomas!" said Percy.
"Good morning, Percy!" said Thomas. He and Percy was looking forward to stretch his wheels. He was ready for a hard day's work.
They both climbed out their berths. But when they got out, they had an unexpected surprise.
"Cinders and ashes!" cried Thomas.
"Rattle my rods!" squeaked Percy.
The turntable was jammed. It pointed to none of the berths. It was turned halfway through. It was stuck.
"What's with all the noise?" yawned Gordon.
Then James, Henry, Edward and Emily rose out of their sheds.
"Everyone, look at the turntable!" cried thomas.
"It's stuck!" cried Henry.
"It is, indeed, Henry." said Sir Topham Hatt who just came out his car.
"The turntable is jammed. I'm afraid you all will have to stay in the sheds. We are unsure when it will be repaired."
The engines were worried.
"But, sir, who will run my branchline?" asked Thomas.
"And the mail train?" asked Percy.
"And the Flying Kipper?" added Henry.
"And the Express?" finished Gordon.
"Duck will take the Express, Gordon." said Sir Topham Hatt. "Oliver will take the mail train, Percy. Donald will take the Flying Kipper, Henry. And Douglas will run your branchline, Thomas."
Thomas was dissappointed. He was looking to stretching whis wheels.
Sir Topham Hatt drove away.Later, the engines were bored. Even Toby came from his shed at Arlesdale End to keep them company.
"What should we do?" said Henry.
"Let's play a game!" said Thomas.
That got Percy excited. "What shall we play?"
"Let's play, 'I Spy'".said Thomas. "I'll start. I'll spy with my eyes something green and on wheels."
The engines looked around.
"Is it a truck?" said Percy.
"Keep guessing!" said Thomas.
"Is a brake van?" guessed Henry.
"Not quite." said Thomas.
"Is an Express coach?" Asked Edward.
"Right!" Said Thomas, glaring at the express coach next to the Sheds
Gordon grumped. He really wanted to take the Express today.
"Ooh, I've got one!" Said Percy excitedly. "I spy something big and blue."
"Is it a coach?" guessed thomas.
"Keep guessing!" said Percy. "He's big and boastful and such a show off!"
"It's Gordon!" said Toby.
Gordon didn't think that was funny at all.Later, the engines were taking a rest. Meanwhile, Gordon's driver and fireman climbed in his cab. The driver had forgot his lunch box.
"Are you sure you left it in here?" asked the fireman.
"Yes." said the driver. "I brought it with me."
"Here it is." said the fireman. "You left it in the tender."
He grabbed the box.
"Let's go, mate." said the driver. "The stationmaster is serving us tea at Knapford."
"Jolly good." said the fireman.
Then there was trouble. When Gordon's driver left, he accidentally leaned on Gordon's brakes and turned them off.
Gordon slowly rolled from his berth. His eyes jerked open.
"Bust my boiler!" he cried.
He kept rolling along. The engines woke up.
"Gordon, what on earth are you doing?" cried James.
"Stop!" cried Thomas.
"I can't!"
Then, Gordon was approaching the turntable. It was still against him. He slammed on his brakes, but it was too late.
CRASH!
Gordon fell into the turntable well. Luckily, no one was hurt.
"Are you all right, Gordon?" called Edward.
"I'm fine." Gordon called back, "but get me out of this well!"
Toby went to go get help.
Later, he came with Oliver and Rocky.
When Oliver saw Gordon, he was surprised.
"I'm glad that wasn't me this time." he said in relief.
Rocky lifted Gordon out of the well, and then his tender. Gordon was all right, but his bufferbeam was damaged.
Before, he put Gordon back on the track, Sir Topham Hatt came.
"Gordon, what were you thinking?" he said sternly. "You know the turntable was damaged."
"I'm sorry, sir." said Gordon. "It wasn't my fault."
"You must get your buffers repaired immediately." said Sir Topham Hatt
Gordon went to the Steamworks. Victor was there.
"Hello, Gordon." he said. "What can I do for you, my friend?"
"My buffers are damaged." said Gordon. "I need some new buffer."
"Unfortunately, Gordon, we're out of steamie buffers and you'll have to use diesel buffers."
"What?!" cried Gordon, flabbergasted "No, not again!" He remembered the time where he got diesel buffers while his buffers were being reapired.
Victor laughed. "I'm just kidding, Gordon! Here, I'll go get a steamie bufferbeam."That night, when Gordon came back to the sheds, the turntable was moving again. Gordon settled in his berth.
"Well." said Thomas. "I think we've learned something today.
"What's that?" asked Henry.
"This is what it feels like for al of us to be together!"
The engines laughed.
