Signals are very essential on the Island of Sodor. They tell the engines whether to stop or go. It's not safe for an engine to go through a red signal. The signalmen have very important jobs in their signalboxes. They change the signals and change the Switches.

One evening. Diesel was at Brendam Docks. Cranky was unloading a special for Diesel to take to the Dieselworks.

"You must be very carefulwhile taking this, Diesel." warned Cranky.

"I know, Cranky." oiled Diesel.

Cranky loaded the special in Diesel's trucks. He was taking some oil drums. Diesel blew his horn and set off. Diesel went faster and faster. He was trying to get back to the Dieselworks as quickly as he could. The oil drums shook and rocked and were in danger of falling off, but Diesel didn't notice. Then he came to a sharp bend, but he still didn't slow down. Then, there was trouble. As Diesel turned the bend, an oil drum fell out of the truck.

Crash! The oil drum bumped into a signal and knocked it down. But Diesel didn't notice. He kept going on. But the signalman did.

"Come back!" he cried. but Diesel didn't hear. The signalman called Sir Topham Hatt.

Diesel got to the Dieselworks in no time. He was ready to have fun with 'Arry and Bert, until Sir Topham Hatt came aboard Mavis. He was cross.

"Diesel, you have caused confusion and delay! You knocked down the signal while you were being careless!"

"I'm sorry, Sir." sighed Diesel.

Later, Henry got Rocky and he put the signal back up. But one of the pieces that caused the signal arm move came off, when Diesel knocked it down, no body noticed.

Meanwhile, Henry was at Knapford Station. Sir Topham Hatt had a very important job for him.

"Henry, you must take some visitors to Ulfstead Castle to tour the castle and be there by teatime."

"Yes, sir!" said Henry (Passengers climb aboard)

Henry set off. He come towards the junction with the faulty signal. The signal was red. He stopped. He didn't know the signal was broken.

"Oh, dear!"

Meanwhile, Toby and Henrietta were coming along the same line. They dropped off some passengers. Then Toby saw Henry up ahead. He stopped.

"Henry, what's going on?" called Toby.

"I don't know." replied Henry. "The signal has been red for five minutes!"

Meanwhile. Thomas was coming on the same line with Annie and Clarabel. He was on his way to pick up workers. Then he saw Henry and Toby stopped at the signal.

"Thomas, why have we stopped?" asked Annie.

"I hope weren't going to be late." said Clarabel.

"Henry and Toby are in front of me."

Later, more engines came to the junction. Percy came next with his mail train, then Edward, then James and then Gordon, with a long Express train.

Soon, the line was blocked, and the engines were stuck and they couldn't move.

"What's wrong with the signal?" cried Edward .

"My mail train is late!" said Percy.

"So are my passengers!" cried Henry.

"I'm late for picking up my passengers!" said Thomas.

"And Toby and I are late for our next job!" said Henrietta.
