When Thomas puffs on his branchline, he pulls his two coaches, Annie and Clarabel. They are both old, but always get the job done. Annie takes passengers, Clarabel takes passengers, luggage and the conductor.
One night, Thomas was shunting Annie and Clarabel to their shed.
"What a busy night," puffed Thomas.
"My wheels feel rattled." said Annie.
"I can't wait to get into my shed and rest my wheels!" said Clarabel.
"I think someone forgot their hat!" added Annie.
"We'll turn it into Sir Topham Hatt." said Clarabel.
Thomas put them in their shed.
"Good night!" he said.
"Good night, Thomas!" they sang.mThe next morning, Thomas went back to the yards to pick up Annie and Clarabel. But when he got to their shed, they weren't there.
"Cinders and ashes!" cried Thomas. "Where did they go?"
Thomas was sure he had left them in their shed.
Just then, Henry puffed up. He looked worried.
"Thomas! Thomas!" cried Henry.
"What's the matter, Henry?"
"I saw someone take Annie and Clarabel last night!"
"What happened?"
"I was on my way here to collect some coaches so I could pick up some workmen from the Mainland, and when I came here, I saw Annie and Clarabel leaving the shed. I thought it was you, but you They were sleeping."
"Did you see who it was?"
"No, I didn't, but all I know, was there were two engines and they were both steamies."
Thomas was worried.
"I must tell Sir Topham Hatt!"
And he puffed off to Knapford Station.
When Thomas got to there, Sir Topham Hatt was waiting for him. Before Thomas could say anything, Sir Topham Hatt spoke.
"I know your coaches are missing Thomas. Henry told me this morning."
"What am I going to do, sir?"
"You will have to use different coaches until we find Annie and Clarabel. There are no branchline coaches available, so you'' have to use Express coaches."
"Yes,, sir." sighed Thomas.Later, Edward shunted in two express coaches. Thomas was coupled to them.
He missed his coaches.
Thomas was at the station, waiting for Duck.
Then Duck came in.
"Good morning, Thomas!" he said.
Then Duck noticed something wasn't right at all.
"Where are Annie and Clarabel?"
"I don't know, Duck. They weren't in their shed this morning."
"I hope you find them!" Duck whistled and left.
At the end of the line Thomas dropped the Express coaches off at the shed. Then he went to go look for Annie and Clarabel.
Thomas remembered what Henry said. "Two steam engines...two steam
Engines..." thought Thomas.
Thomas looked around.
First he saw Edward and James pulling a goods train.
"Hello, Thomas!" whistled Edward.
"Hello, Edward." replied Thomas.
"It can't be Edward and James." thought Thomas.
Thomas puffed by Wellsworth Station.
Donald and Douglas were there.
"Hello, Thomas!" they said.
"Hello, Donald, Douglas. Have you seen Annie and Clarabel?"
They haven't seen them either.
"Try checking the wee coach yard, lad." said Douglas.
Thomas went to the coach depot, Duck and Oliver the Great Western Engines. were there.
"Hello, Thomas!" said Oliver.
"Hello, Oliver, Duck." said Thomas. "Have you seen Annie and Clarabel?" said Thomas.
"Not here," said Oliver.
"Thomas, could you do me a favor?" asked Duck.
"What is it, Duck?"
"Oliver and I need to shunt these coaches and take some workers to the Mainland and are too busy to take these trucks to the quarry. Could you take them?"
"All right, Duck." Thomas agreed.
When Thomas got to the quarry he noticed something wasn't right at all.
"Where are Bill and Ben?" he wondered.
Then he saw Timothy.
"It's been a busy day, Thomas!" he puffed. "Marion and I have been working hard and Bill and Ben have been gone all day! Just leave the trucks there."
Then Marion came up.
"Oh, hello Thomas!" she called. "Have I told you the time I dug up that-"
"Sorry, Marion," said Thomas. "I can't talk now, I need to track down my coaches!"
Thomas went by Knapford Station and then to the water tower. Bill and Ben were there.
"Hello, Thomas!" they said.
"Hello, Bill, Be..." Thomas stopped.
He looked at Bill and Ben. Coupled to them was...
"Annie and Clarabel!" gasped Thomas.
"Thomas!" gasped Annie and Clarabel.
Thomas was cross. "You two took my coaches?"
"That's right!" laughed Bill.
"It makes sense now!" said Thomas remembering what Henry and Timothy had told him. "
Why did you take them?"
"Look at them-" said Bill. "Aren't they nice and shiny?"?
"Give me back my coaches, you tricksters!" said Thomas.
"You'll have to catch us first!" giggled Ben.
Laughing, Bill and Ben raced off with still coupled to Annie and Clarabel.
"Oh, no, you don't!" snapped Thomas. And went after Bill and Ben,
Bill and Ben went faster and faster.
"Thomas, help us!" cried Annie.
Thomas pumped his pistons and rattled his rods. He was determined to catch Bill and Ben.
"Give up, Thomas!" said Bill. "You can't catch us!"
"I can and I will!" Replied Thomas.
They came to a junction. The signal was green but after Bill and Ben passed, the signal was red.
"Bother!" said Thomas.
He had to stop.
He watched Hiro pass by with a goods train. (Hiro greets Thomas with his whistle.)
When the brake van passed, the signal turned green.
"Hooray!" said Thomas and hurried off.
Then Thomas, got back to Bill and Ben.
"There you are!" said Thomas.
"Bother!" puffed Bill crossly
"I thought we got rid of him!" said Ben.
Then there was trouble. Up ahead, James was pulling a train of fish. And the twins were going fast
"Oh no!" said Bill. "We're going to crash!"
He, Ben and Thomas slammed on their brakes. Their drivers and the conductor in the brake van jumped clear. But it was too late.
Crash! The twins hit the van and fish went flying. Fish flew on Thomas, Bill, Ben and James.
"Yuck!" said Bill.
"What a mess!" said Ben.
"I think there's a fish in my tunnel!" moaned Thomas.
"Oh dear!" gasped Annie and Clarabel,
"Oh-my paintwork!" moaned James.
Luckily, no one was hurt. But Bill, Ben, Annie and Clarabel were derailed.
"Thomas, help us please!" said Ben,
Thomas wasn't sure if he should. But he knew he should always help an engine when in trouble. So Thomas went to the Search and Rescue to get Rocky. James went to get a wash down.
"Come along, Rocky!" said Thomas as he was coupled to rocky. "We've got a big mess to clean!"
"I'm ready, Thomas!" called Rocky.
Thomas took Rocky to the scene. In no time, all the fish was clear, Bill, Ben and Annie and Clarabel were back on the track.
Bill and Ben wre glad.
"Thank you for rescuing us, Thomas." said Bill.
"We're sorry for taking Annie and Clarabel."said Ben.
"It's all right." said Thomas as he was coupled to Annie and Clarabel.
"You were really fast." said Bill. "Why don't we race to the quarry?"
"You're on!" said Thomas.
"Ready, set, go!" said Ben and they raced off.
