LETTER
The revelation about Sandy never really sinks in into my system. I refuse to take it. I never saw Sandy as someone who can do drugs with big people and let some brats' bullies her. I have known her for years and I know every bit of her, or so I thought.
Maybe, she doesn't really show her real self to me. Maybe, she didn't mean every bit of words and actions she had shown to me. Maybe, she's faking everything when I'm around.
Maybe... she isn't innocent after all.
I open my eyes when my glass suddenly clashed into the ground. I mentally slap myself when realization hit me.
No! What the fuck are you thinking?! Why would you ever think of her that way! I'm going insane. God, Sandy I'm so sorry I doubted you.
My mind is clouded with so many thoughts of Sandy, where is she? What did her mother do? What did she do? If only she asked for help, I would gladly lend my hand to her and save her from distress.
I know she does not share everything to me and that sometimes I feel like she has a lot of secrets hidden deeply and I respect that. I might feel sad because I'm her best friend after all, she can always trust me and I would never judge her or disappoint her.
I just want her to send signal of distress to me. I want her to show me every bruise she carries. Her every flaw, I will embrace it.
But she's Sandy. She keeps it to herself and would never say a word. That right there is the most fearful traits of her that I wish I could change.
Saturday morning came when my mom barge in my room and hand me an envelope.
"What is this, mom? "
Mom shrugged her shoulder, "I don't know, dear. I found that on our front door this morning and it says it's for you."
I stare at it for a few seconds and decided to open it when mom got out of my room.
What could this be?
When I finally open it and make a hold of a piece of paper on it. I was curious.
"A letter... " I mumbled.
I sat on my bed, finding my comfortable position and started reading it.
Don't look for me. Stay away from danger. Stay away from the seniors. Please.
Sandy
As soon as I read her name at the bottom of the paper I immediately stood up and run outside of our house.
"Sandy! " I said while looking around the area. I run to the back of our house hoping and praying for her to be there but to my dismay, she's not there. I decided to run to their house. She might visit the burned house and i finally got to see her!
Again, no signs of her.
I take one last round around the vicinity but still no trace of her. I slump at the side of the street, hopeless for her persona.
"Where are you?" I said and letting my head drop on my knees.
What did she mean by her letter? Stay away from the seniors? Does that mean the rumors are true? Did she really do it with them? Why?
I'm already confused on everything that is happening and now she forbids me to look for her and also to stay away from danger? What exactly does she get herself into?
I want answers! I have to have answers with all these or else I'm going totally insane!
I refuse to acknowledge my emotion to be more hopeless. I got on my feet and hailed a taxi. I dial Miggy's number and I'm glad he answered right away.
"Where are you? " I instantly ask him.
"My apartment. Why? " He answered.
"Okay, stay there" I said and hang up the call and I told the driver the address.
It took a couple of minutes to finally arrive in Miggy's place. I look at the tall building in front of me. I heave a sigh and started taking big strode inside. While inside the elevator, I feel agitated, fidgeting the letter I was holding. I'm literally stomping my foot consecutively that maybe it annoys the elderly beside me. She looks at me sharply and I turn my gaze away from her, I just don't care at all.
If this is a normal day I would be apologizing and definitely stop right away. But no, this isn't normal! As much as I wanted to apologize for my behavior and make a stop for it, I just can't!
As the elevator reached my destination I immediately got out and knock on Miggy's door.
Miggy's one of my closest friends in the university that is why she knows Sandy a bit. I let Sandy interact with him so that she, at least, have another friend other than me. We usually hang out every Saturday, sometimes it's just the two of us because she sometimes tells me she had somewhere to go, or something to do.
I didn't question her tho. I trust her. And maybe I trust her so much that it hurt me for doubting her bit by bit. It sucks!
"Dude! What's the matter? The neighbours will assume you wanna bring my door down!" he exclaimed. I didn't mind what he said and just push him to the side and walk straight to his living room.
He followed me and sat across, crossing his arms.
I hand him the letters that I was holding, which is now crumpled. I put my elbows on my knees as I look at him and waited for his reaction. His brows creased as he read the letter.
"What the flying fuck?! So, it's true? All of it was true? Holy shit!"
"I know. And I am stupid if I keep on refusing the idea, which is basically the truth of her --- I don't want to believe them! I don't want to believe it! But---" I grasp for air as felt I'm losing my breath. I grip my hair out of frustration.
"Miggy, what am I supposed to do now? " I asked hopelessly. He stands up and started pacing back and forth.
"Let's find her. " he said. I look at him, puzzled.
"She doesn't want to be found, Miggy! You read it right?! She warned me. "
"Yes! I know, I read it the first time but dude--- " he beside me and held my shoulder.
"If you want to know everything you have to take risk. You wouldn't solve any of this mess if you stay right where she left you!" he added.
That made me reconsider everything. Her. The situation. Me.
Right! I should take risk. I should find her and clear everything that is happening. I should be able to find her, more so save her.
She told me to stay out of danger then maybe where she is right now is dangerous. Albeit, she's suffering and she badly need help even if she would never say it.
I should take a risk, for her.
I look at Miggy straight in the eye.
"Let's do it. Let's find her. "
