fourteen years old.  Wilder's pov.

I was just leaving the building when someone yelled out, "hey! Wait up!"

I turned, surprised to see the green eyed boy.

"Hey." he said, panting, "I saw you in there, it was awesome!"

"Oh... thanks I guess..." I started walking and he followed.

"No problem! anyway, no way you're failing with that! I'm gonna be tested tomorrow by the way."

"Really? Maybe ill come by and see you."

"That'd be great. I'm so nervous. Were you nervous?" he asked, his bright eyes staring at me.

I laughed, "Of course I was nervous. I've never seen anyone do higher magic than controlling water or something."

"That's true. But I mean, I was raised in the countryside so I don't know much about higher magics either."

I paused to think, "did you have a tutor?"

"Yeah, but I went farther than what she taught me."

"Oh."

It was silent for a moment, a nice silence that didn't need to be filled.

Then once again I noticed the sun was disappearing.

"Oh no! I'm late! I'm late! I'm so sorry, I have to go! See ya tomorrow!" I yelled as I ran off

I did a shorter than usual run in the market in order to get there on time.

When I did, the people at the doors looked skeptical at letting me in, but they could do nothing about it. Just like the library. I laughed at their funny reactions and went to find a good seat.

I ended up in the front row, it was a longer wait than anticipated, but eventually the boy came out, looking especially tense.

When it was his turn to do the three tricks, I put my fingers in my mouth and whistled shrilly, a taxi whistle.

He looked up and I waved. He smiled and seemed to relax a little.

When he started I noticed that he didn't chant either, just like me.

His first trick was he made his own arm disappear. The second, he caught the instructor's arm on fire, but it wasn't actually burning. For his third trick he jumped high in the air, probably using air magic, and roundhouse kicked the man in the face.

Ok. fine.

He did not roundhouse kick him in the face.

He was centimeters away from doing so, though.

I laughed a the face the instructor made. Looks like he is having an interesting couple of days.

Then the boy walked out of the arch and I ran after him.

"That was awesome! You nearly kicked his face in."

He laughed lightly and shook his head, "do you know how much practice that took?"

"Probably a lot. I had to practice for weeks to master one trick."

We started walking towards the market as he said, "yeah, took me forever to be able to do that one."

Once again, much like last time, there was a comfortable silence for a few minutes. When we arrived at the market I tensed. There was more guards than usual today.

"Something wrong?" the boy asked, seeming to have noticed this.

I hesitated a moment before saying, "I... um, there's more guards than usual..."

He looked surprised then said, looking around, "your right, there are. But dont worry, they can't do anything unless they see you stealing." he threw his arm around my shoulders lightly and I tensed a moment before relaxing to his touch.

"True, doesn't make me any less uneasy though." I muttered, watching as a small girl, obviously a rat, was caught by a guard.

He sighed and took my hand, leading me away from the sight. We wandered around the market and he pointed out different things. We didn't buy anything, which I was grateful for as I could not waste my money on small trinkets. He seemed to have the same opinion.

So instead, we just walked around and talked about random stuff.

Eventually the sun was getting low so I told him I had to go and he agreed.

We waved goodbye and I watched him disappear into the sunset.
