Wilder pov. fourteen years old.

"Yeah, I don't think I'll be able to go back to the cold ground after this for that long." I said, stepping inside. I headed to one of the doors on the side wall, Ellio following. The bathroom. Then another door, this one was a bedroom. It had a fluffy looking bed and a small desk in the corner, a chest on the opposite wall.

We closed the door and went to the third one, inside was the same bedroom.

"I'll take that one." Ellio said, pointing to the other one. I nodded and went to explore some more.

I walked around the rest of the dorm, muttering to myself, "I haven't seen anything like this since my last life."

Ellio seemed to have heard me and asked, "your last life?"

I froze. What am I supposed to say? Would he believe the truth? Or would he just scoff and tell me not to play stupid jokes? I really wanted to tell him, but I was afraid.

"Just another saying from my dad." I said after a while of contemplating.

I really did want to tell him, I did. But I was so scared. He's the first friend I've had in fourteen years. I don't want to ruin that with making myself sound batshit crazy.

Thankfully, even though he obviously didn't buy it, he just nodded and let the topic drop.

Then I noticed something. We had talked and talked for so long I hadn't even noticed that the sun was just a sliver.

I sighed and just slumped into the couch. "I suppose I'll stay here tonight and get my stuff tomorrow."

"Yeah . . . hey, I was wondering about that. Why did you always leave before sunset?" he asked, watching me.

"Well, in the day us rats can roam around as we please and the guards can't do a thing, unless we steal something, of course. But at night, as soon as the sun goes down, the guards can capture us for money if were even on the street.'' I told him.

He scoffed and said, "that's stupid."

"Yup, sure is."

We talked some more and I eventually got tired.

I think it's the couch, being on something so soft for so long just made my body go 'see ya'. I let my eyes close and leaned into his shoulder. I felt him tense for a moment before relaxing again, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. It sent butterflies to my stomach, but I ignored them in favor of sleep.

Sleep with Ellio's arm around me and my head on his shoulder.
