Chapter 19- Bucky's POV

Bucky's POV

Bucky tossed and turned.

He'd thought about taking the sleeping draught, but figured that he'd try to fall asleep on his own that night.

Needless to say, it wasn't working.

He listened to the chirping and cracking of wildlife outside of the hut and tried to calm himself or imagine Nico stroking his hairline again, but nothing worked.

However, Nico was passed out beside him. He'd taken his draught, and clearly, it worked wonders for him, because he was fast asleep.

Bucky wondered vaguely what Nico dreamt about.

Did he dream about engineer stuff? Did he dream about mechanics?

Did he dream about Bucky?

He grinned at the thought.

A soft whimper came from Nico. Though it was barely audible, Bucky could've heard it from a mile away.

"Nico?"

Bucky started towards an unconscious Nico, remembering the time when Nico had soothed him in Spanish.

Since he'd been dreaming at the time he heard them, the words had been all jumbled up and somehow hard to understand, but now that he was able to recall what Nico had been saying, he fully understood what he'd said.

What? He was quite fluent in many languages, not just Russian.

Doing time as the Winter Soldier had improved his language skills and definitely surpassed his goals.

"Nico? Nico," Bucky whispered, examining Nico, who did not stir, but only shifted and whimpered again, this time a bit louder.

Bucky began to worry. What was going on? Was he having nightmares?

He told me his father died, right? Bucky thought to himself. Perhaps he has nightmares about that, occasionally.

"Nico, it's going to be okay," Bucky muttered to him. "Nico, you're okay, I promise,"

Nico still did not wake and didn't seem all that soothed any more than he originally was.

"Nico, it's going to be okay, I swear," Bucky said quietly, trying to recall the things Nico had said to him. He let out a slow exhale.

"No tengo unos hermanos pero Steve Rogers," [I have no siblings but Steve Rogers] Bucky whispered to him, keeping up the Spanish game. "Tú eres atrevido tambien, Nico. Amo tú," [You are brave also, Nico. I love you]

Bucky caught himself, backtracking. Upon realizing that 1) it was too late to take it back and 2) he didn't feel inclined to take it back, he continued.

"Estas seguro," he said gently.

Nico continued to whimper and shift around.

Bucky sighed, lifting Nico's blanket and slipping in beside him, wrapping his arm around the engineer, and falling asleep.
