7 years had passed. Polly and Betty had grown from 2 years old and a few days old to 9 years old 7 years old respectively. Hermione, Mary, and Gladys had all had their babies shortly after Alice did. Hermione and Hiram moved to New York after Veronica was born. She and Hal had been writing articles against the Southside but other than that nothing had happened. They did get a cat though! (Caramel).

Alice drove Polly and Betty to school like she did every day. The girls kissed their mother goodbye and ran into their classes.

"Archie!" Betty called after seeing the ginger-haired, freckled, brown-eyed boy.

"Hi Betty!" the boy beamed.

The two children sat on the carpet beside Jughead Jones (Archie's other best friend).

"Today we will be starting off by drawing a picture of your family and if you get the time you can add your friends too!" announced the teacher.

After half an hour the teacher called for the class to stop.

"Okay, I'm going to come around and look at the pictures you've drawn."

She went to look at all the different pictures. The kids beamed up at her as she praised their work - until she got to Betty.

"Betty, what's going on in your drawing?"

"It's my family next to Archie's and Jugheads - I forgot the 'a' in 'head'" she explained shyly "Did I do it wrong?"

"No, you did the work... can you tell me about why you drew the families the way you did?"

"Well, Archie's mum and dad are happy all the time. Jughead said his mum is always happy with his baby sister but he said his dad doesn't smile much."

"And what about your family?" she inquired "you drew your mum smiling but you drew tears..."

"Mummy and daddy don't sit together at home and they don't seem very happy. Mummy smiles at me and Polly but she cries when daddy isn't looking - she thinks she is on her own... She tells me and Polly she loves us but she doesn't say it to daddy..."

"Have you spoken to your mum about it Betty?" she asked "Does it make you sad?"

"No, I've not. Everyone else's mum and dad say 'I love you'..."

"Maybe you just don't hear them say it," she offered.

"Really?"

"Yeah" she replied doubtfully.

The day continued as normal and then all the children went home.

"Mrs Cooper?"

"Yes?"

"Have you got a minute?"

"Erm... not really- oh go on then it will be fine."

"Thank you, it won't take long..."
