Hiccup was mildly taken aback, although excited. "You.. you want to know about dragons?" He asked. She shrugged. "You told me having the soul of a dragon doesn't have to be a bad thing. I want to know why. I want to know what you experienced." She said. He nodded. "Well.. Berk wasn't always this dragon utopia, as you may have expected. We used to be like every other island; hating dragons, fighting them, killing them. I used to want to kill dragons too, believe it or not." He said. She nodded, prompting him to continue. "We believed dragons to be vicious beasts. But that changed when I met Toothless." He said. She glanced at him. "You never did tell me how you managed to tame Toothless." She said, playing with the dust on the floor. "I was getting to that." He said lightheartedly. "I shot him down, actually." He said. She whipped her head around to him. "You, shot down a Night Fury?" She asked. He shuffled a bit, uncomfortable under her stare. "Yea, when I was 15. But, when I found him shot down in the woods, I just.. I couldn't kill him. I planned to, but I couldn't do it. I wouldn't." He said. (Y/N) scoffed. "He's a dragon. He was right there, how hard could it have been?" She asked sarcastically. "I just couldn't, (Y/N). I looked into his eyes, and I could tell he was just as scared as I was. I freed him from the nets, and he pinned me to a rock. He also could have killed me, but he didn't. He just flew away." He said. Her jaw dropped. "You survived a Night Fury? Gods, I can't believe it." She breathed out. He laughed lightly. He began recalling the process of how he began to fly Toothless. How he made his prosthetic tail. "He got me back though. When we were fighting the Red Death, I got smacked off Toothless, and I guess he just couldn't save all of me." He said laughing, gesturing to his prosthetic leg. (Y/N) chuckled quietly, a genuine laugh, that Hiccup missed. "Anyways, dragons, in specifics.. Ah, I can't truly put it into words. They are kind, gentle, misunderstood creatures. If you treat them with respect, and earn their trust and loyalty, they'll be with you forever. That's the best way to describe them." He said, yawning. (Y/N) nodded slowly, listening to his words. She looked at him as he got up, and he stretched. "Maybe.. If you want, tomorrow, I can take you on a flight." He offered. Her heart jumped into her throat, and her eyes widened, before she spoke. "U-uh, sure, thanks." She said quietly. He offered a kind smile and a nod, before turning, and leaving the cell room. She glanced at the spot in the wall where the letter was, debating whether to finish it. 'I'll just finish it another time.' She thought to herself, letting out a quiet yawn. She laid down on the cold ground, and her eyes fluttered shut.
The next morning, (Y/N) awoke to a small shout. Her eyes snapped open, as she stood up and reached for her knife, cursing when she remembered she'd gave it to Hiccup. Her vision cleared, and she saw a blonde girl. "Uh.. who are you?" (Y/N) asked. "The name's Ruffnut. I didn't really want to, but Hiccup told me I should come check on you, see if you were awake. He said something about wanting to talk to you later, but I didn't really listen. He talks a lot, he talks TOO much, I couldn't have been bothered to listen.." She said, (Y/N) not listening to the rest of it as she slumped down. She laughed to herself after hearing Ruffnut complain about Hiccup talking too much, agreeing silently. But she quickly grew annoyed when Ruffnut just would not stop talking. "God, don't you just hate it when people never shut up?" She asked, leaning against the cage. (Y/N) grit her teeth, lunging towards Ruffnut, grabbing her braids, banging her face against the cell. "Yes, Ruffnut. I absolutely despise it, when people just DO NOT STOP TALKING." She seethed. "Woah woah woah!" Hiccup shouted, running in. He tried prying Ruffnut out of her hold, and (Y/N) let go, sending them both flying. "Ruffnut, go on ahead, I'll meet with you guys later." He said. She glared at (Y/N), before leaving. Hiccup scowled at (Y/N), who just shrugged her shoulders. "She wouldn't shut up. She's worse than you." She said flatly. Hiccup pinched the bridge of his nose. "(Y/N), come on, work with me here. We were making progress. I don't know how you did things on Ameraeli Isle, but you can't just man handle who you want here on Berk." He said strongly. She grunted, and rolled her eyes. They sat in silence, before Hiccup grabbed a pair of keys off the table nearby, and unlocked the cell. He held the door open, waiting for her to come out. "Really?" She asked skeptically. "I just 'manhandled' your buddy, and you're letting me out?" She asked. He smiled a bit. "Well, yea. If we're gonna build trust, we can't do it with you in a cell. Besides, I told you I'd take you for a ride today." He said. She chuckled sarcastically. "On what dr- WOAH!" She shouted, as Toothless came bouncing into the room excitedly, rubbing against Hiccup. Hiccup laughed and began scratching Toothless. "I told you to wait outside bud!" He said. (Y/N) kept her sharp, deadly gaze on Toothless, watching his every move. Hiccup felt her stare, and turned to her. He signaled Toothless to stay, and approached her deep in her cell, after she'd pressed herself up against the wall as much as she could. "Hey, do you trust me?" He asked. "Trust you? After you kidnapped me!? Funny. Hell no I do not trust you!" She spat. He laughed and rubbed the back of his neck. "That's fair enough. Do you trust Toothless?" He asked. "Are you joking!?" She screamed. "Okay, okay! Sorry! Just, please." He said, reaching his hand out. She just stared at him, enraged. He drew his hand back. "I know you aren't gonna move from that spot as long as Toothless is here, so you're gonna have to approach him at some point." He said, leaning down to her level. She was considerably shorter than him, but she was absolutely stronger. Every instinct in her body was screaming to just punch him, kick him, do whatever she could to get past him, get the dragon and get out. Yet, since she'd been on Berk, her signals became less and less clear. Less strong. She grunted disapprovingly, and roughly grabbed his hand, not looking at him. He smiled. "Thank you." He said, walking them towards Toothless. She stared at him, and fought against every instinct telling her to attack, to scream, as the dragon sat back on its back legs. She began trembling. Of course, she'd touched dragons before. But it was when she was killing them. Not.. bonding with one. She closed her eyes as Hiccup reached her hand slowly out to Toothless, noticing the smiley and frowney faces scattered across the back of her hand, extending down her arm, now faint, as they were scars. "Hiccup, Odin help me, I'm going to-" "Kill me, yeah yeah, I know." He finished, laughing lightly. She squeezed her eyes shut, as the beast stared at her. Toothless pressed his nose gently into the palm of her hand. Her eyes fluttered open, and he turned her head to lock eyes with Hiccup. He gave her an encouraging smile as he took his hand off hers. "Hiccup I don't wanna look." She said, trembling with anxiety. "It's okay, he's not gonna hurt you." He said. She craned her neck, staring at Toothless from the corner of her eye. Eventually, she turned her head to look directly at him. Her jaw unclenched, and her body relaxed, as Toothless opened his eyes to look at her. "I don't get it.." She mumbled. "Why isn't he doing anything? He should be furious at me." She asked, as she slowly drew her hand back. "Toothless isn't violent, (Y/N). He won't hurt you." He replied, circling around them to mount Toothless. He stuck his hand out to her, and she stared at it. "What, you actually want me to get on the dragon?" She asked sarcastically. Her face dropped when his smile didn't falter. She sighed, and carefully approached the dragon. She slapped away his hand, and climbed on top of Toothless, not knowing where to place her hands. He laughed. "Man, you remind me of Astrid. She did the exact same thing the first time she flew on Toothless. I really think you two would get along." He said. She smiled sarcastically. "Just put your arms around my waist, it'll be easier to hang on." He said. A blush rose to her cheeks of embarrassment as she did as he said, hiding her face in his back. Toothless waddled towards the door of prison with them on his back, and got ready to take off. "Hold on tight (Y/N). Toothless is pretty fast." He said. She barely had time to respond, before Toothless took off, and the girl let out a shriek. Her grip around his waist tightened, as they ascended higher and higher. "Gods (Y/N), you're gonna break my ribs!" Hiccup shouted, half jokingly as he winced. Once they were at a steady glide, she loosened her grip. "You can take your face out of my back, you know." Hiccup said. She shook her head, and he laughed. "You're gonna have to somehow." He said, getting an idea. "What do you- hey, hey! Hiccup what are you doing!?" She shouted, as he wiggled out of her grasp, standing up. "Your turn to drive, m'lady." He said, as he fell backwards off Toothless. She screamed, not at all worried about Hiccup. but rather worried about having to steer the dragon on her own.. Okay, maybe she was a bit worried about Hiccup. 'Hiccup!?" She shouted, not tearing her eyes from the sky in front of her. He floated up next to her and Toothless, using.. "Are those wings?" She asked, mortified. He laughed at her expression. "Dude, you're literally insane, oh my gods." She said, exhaling. He spun over the two of them so he was on the other side. "It's not so bad, is it, (Y/N)?" He asked. Her knuckles were white as she gripped onto the saddle on Toothless, yet she smiled. "I guess it's not terrible." She admitted. Hiccup leaned a bit so he could sit back on Toothless, sitting back in front of her, and taking control. She snaked her arms around his waist again so she wouldn't fall off, but this time, she gazed over the side of Toothless. She sighed. "You doing okay back there?" Hiccup asked. He felt her shrug. "I don't know what this feeling is. I've never flown before, and it's unlike anything I've ever experienced. I feel... kind of nauseous, but.. free." She mumbled. "Why do you trust me?" She asked. He hummed inquisitively. "I punched you in the face, in the stomach, headbutted you, threatened you, almost killed your dragons, yet you still came back. You still sought me out, brought me back to Berk, talked to me. Why?" She wondered aloud. Hiccup shrugged. "I just wanted to change your mind about it all. I've heard of your island, but I'd never heard of you until we came back from your ship. I've managed to talk down a lot of people, I figured it was worth a try. That's why we were on that island when you were. We went back to try and find you, but we needed a break. We just so happened to be at the same place as you. I tried to talk to you in the clearing, but I knew I couldn't talk to you in a wild environment. So, we decided we'd have to bring you back to Berk. I wasn't expecting it to be so easy to be honest." He said. They both sat in silence, as he pondered what to say next. "When you were in the cell, and I looked into your eyes, I saw fear. On the boat, there was nothing but rage, craze, and bloodlust. Your eyes were empty of any empathy, or love. But in the cell, you were afraid. That's when I understood you, and when I knew I could crack you. You had the same look I saw in Toothless' eyes when I was going to kill him, and I don't doubt it was the same look in my eyes when Toothless had me pinned against the rock." He explained.
