Bottoms Up

I am woken up by the sound of knocking, I groan and roll over to grab my phone and check the time. It is 8:30. 8:30 on a fucking Saturday morning and someone is knocking on the door.

I drag myself out of bed and head to the door. I walk out of my room the same time that Alex walks out of hers. She looks how I feel her hair is messed up and her clothes are ruffled and she has dark circles under her eyes

"What the fuck is going on?" she asks.

I shrug. "No idea."

We both go to answer the door to see what is going on. When I open the door it's our landlord, Mr. Wells.

"Hi Mr. Wells. What's up?"

"I hate to do this to you girls but you have to leave, the whole building is being evacuated today because the foundation in the building isn't stable and it could collapse. You won't be able to live here for a couple weeks while the foundation is being repaired."

"Wait seriously?"

"I'm afraid so girls."

"Do we need to bring all of our stuff with us?" I ask.

"No, you can leave your furniture and stuff. Just bring what you need for the next few weeks like clothes and whatever else."

"Okay. What time do we need to be out today?"

"Any time before 5:00 tonight should be good."

"Alright thanks."

"Again I'm sorry for the inconvenience and I will contact you when it is safe to move back in."

With that I close the door and turn to Alex. "Where are we supposed to go? We can't stay at a hotel for more than a couple days, we don't have that kind of money. We can't rent an apartment or house or something so what are we supposed to do?"

Alex walks towards the kitchen to start making some coffee and thinking over the situation. "Doesn't Cooper have an extra bedroom? I mean one of us could sleep on the couch or something."

"I guess so but that means that we would have to live with Kai for weeks. I would literally rather jump off a bridge." I reply

"Come on Dani it wouldn't be that bad, it's only for a couple of weeks and you would be at school for 5 days out of the week and working most days too. We really don't have anywhere else to go."

"Ugh I guess. If we really have to. I'll text Cooper but first let's eat something."

Alex pours us both some coffee while I grab all the ingredients that I need to make pancakes. I grab a bowl from the cabinet and turn on the stove to heat up the pan. I mix together the ingredients in the bowl. Before I can cook the first pancake Alex hands me a cup of coffee and she puts milk and sugar in hers.

I make a stack of pancakes and divide them between Alex and I. She puts maple syrup on her and I put lemon juice and sugar on mine. After we get done eating and Alex stands at the sink cleaning the dishes, I text Cooper.

Me: Hey so we just found out that the foundation in our building needs to be fixed and we can't live here while it is being worked on. Is there any way Alex and I could stay at yours for a few weeks?

I dry the dishes that Alex washed and put them away and when I'm finished I check my phone.

Cooper: Yeah of course I have a spare room and a pull out couch so the two of you can decide between each other who gets what.
