At 11 o'clock at night, Bai Han Qi walked into Bai Luo Yin's room with a towel draped over his shoulder after taking a shower, dripping water all over the floor.
"When you go to sleep, don't forget to lock the courtyard door."
Bai Luo Yin nodded his head, his eyes focused on the computer screen.
After Bai Han Qi returned to his own room, Bai Luo Yin ferociously slapped the keyboard and glared at the screen. Dead again! For some unknown reasons, whenever he played games today, he would either die or the game would glitch. I'm not playing anymore! Bai Luo Yin stood up and used his foot to kick the stool aside. Then, he walked outside.
The moon was beautiful tonight, round and bright in the night sky. Bai Luo Yin glanced up at it and had the sudden impulse of wanting to spit at it.
You bastard, who told you to be so round today of all days?
The main door was still wide open. Bai Luo Yin picked up the rusty old lock, so cold to the touch that holding it in his hand made his heart feel the chill as well.
As soon as he closed the doors, a large force pushed the doors open again.
"Don't lock the doors."
A face suddenly appeared in the entrance, causing Bai Luo Yin to freeze in place.
Gu Hai had just appeared out of nowhere, covered in dust and travel-worn. When he saw Bai Luo Yin, he went up and hugged him without saying another word.
Bai Luo Yin can smell the road on Gu Hai's body and feel his erratic heartbeat, causing Bai Luo Yin's heart to feel a bit unstable as well.
Hugging Bai Luo Yin, Gu Hai felt like his heart was filled to bursting. After going to visit his mother's grave, he felt so depressed that he almost jumped into the city moat. He ran the entire way to Bai Luo Yin's home, scared that Bai Luo Yin had already locked the doors, scared that he wouldn't be able to see him. At this very moment, only this place and only this person can relieve the loneliness he feels in his heart.
After a long silence, Bai Luo Yin said, "I thought you died on the side of the road!"
Gu Hai let out a long breath, "Hearing you insult me is so nice."
Bai Luo Yin weighed the current situation with past grievances in his heart. How can he just let Gu Hai off that easily? Gu Hai was hugging him so tightly that he couldn't even push him away, so he mercilessly attacked Gu Hai's weak spot, forcing him back a meter or so.
"Get lost!" Don't come here and disturb people's sleep after you had your fun outside!"
Gu Hai struggled to catch his breath due to the pain. However, when he saw that Bai Luo Yin was about to shut the doors, he stubbornly wedged himself between the two doors, his shiny black eyes resolute, "Tonight, I'm not going anywhere else. I'm staying here."
"You're spending the night here?" Bai Luo Yin sneered, "If you pay, I can consider letting you sleep in the pigsty."
Gu Hai found the situation amusing through his anger. Using a little bit of strength, he squeezed inside the doors. He caressed the back of Bai Luo Yin's head and said in a tone used to coax children, "Okay, okay, don't be mad at me anymore. I'm sorry, are you satisfied now? I shouldn't have just left without saying anything and making you worry about me. It's so late, but you're still up waiting for me."
Bai Luo Yin threw off Gu Hai's hand, pulling out a couple of strands of hair that were entangled in his hand as well, "Can you not be so disgusting? Who the fuck waited for you?!"
"Then, why haven't you locked the doors yet? When I lived here a couple of days before, I remembered that you would lock the doors at 9."
Bai Luo Yin was angered to his breaking point. He raised his leg, ready to kick Gu Hai. However, Gu Hai ignored all that and walked straight up to Bai Luo Yin, giving him another fierce embrace. They were pressed up against each other without any space left between them.
"Yin Zi, let's not fight anymore, okay? I just came back from visiting my mother's grave, and my heart's a mess right now. Can you just relent this one time?"
Under Gu Hai's warm and low voice, Bai Luo Yin's stiff body gradually relaxed and warmed up.
After they entered the house, Gu Hai placed a box on the table.
"I bought you some mooncake."
Though Bai Luo Yin let Gu Hai come in, his expression was still as cold as frost.
"You should keep it and eat it by yourself."
Gu Hai opened the box, trying to tempt Bai Luo Yin, "This was custom-ordered just for you. You really don't want to try it?"
"I don't care who it was custom-made for. I said I'm not going to eat it, so..."
Bai Luo Yin turned his head and was struck speechless by the ginormous mooncake in front of him.
It was as big as a pizza!
(T/N: For reference, most mooncakes are around the size of a cookie, so this mooncake is HUGE.)
The words "egg yolk and lotus seed paste" were engraved on the top. The mooncake was smooth and perfectly round with a beautiful color. Even the box lid had a faint mouth-watering smell wafting from it.
"I went to so many shops, and only this one agreed to make it. Don't look down at this mooncake; it required a lot of skill to make! Normally speaking, even a mooncake with only four egg yolks is very hard to make. First, there's the problem of finding a mold for the mooncake, but the most troublesome thing is that egg yolk filling does not stick together easily. If you're not careful, the filling would just fall apart. The mooncake that I ordered has a total of 12 egg yolks. I can guarantee that just eating this once can satisfy your cravings until next year."
Gu Hai said all this with delight, but Bai Luo Yin's heart trembled when he heard this.
"Are you stupid? Couldn't you have just bought a couple of smaller mooncakes? What's the point of putting in all that effort to buy one so big?"
"It's not the same." Gu Hai looked at Bai Luo Yin, a faint smile on his face, "Both of us have a huge appetite, and I wanted to share one with you, so this was the most suitable size."
Though Bai Luo scoffed in response, his eyes were like forks aimed at a piece of mooncake that Gu Hai had already cut. Fortunately, Gu Hai understood what Bai Luo Yin wanted, and without Bai Luo Yin saying anything, he already picked up some mooncake with a fork and brought it to Bai Luo Yin's mouth.
Bai Luo Yin hesitated, but then opened his mouth.
He took a bite. The mooncake was soft and spongy with a slightly salty taste. It felt like he was tasting the flavor of his feelings for the past couple of days.
