Arabelle trudged through the deep swamps following the river. She lost track of how long she had been out there, last she knew was 508 days. She should've been home by now. But she got turned around at some point and had been traveling upstream for about 100 days which set her back. She hadn't lost hope yet though. She tried her best to think happy thoughts about going home and getting to see her parents and family, but she was out in the woods starving and dehydrated. She had been servicing off fish and berries. Scrooge thought her how to safely filter river water, so that's how she had been drinking her water. She hadn't lost hope, and she sure hoped her family hadn't either.
Scrooge paced around in his room desperately checking the search parties getting the same answer every time.
"Sorry McDuck, still no sign of Arabelle." Said one of the searchers. He was tired of hearing that response, he had heard it so many times he could repeat it in the exact tone it was said. He was tired of telling Goldie that they hadn't found her yet. This was exactly like the spear of Selene, except this time it was his baby girl. He walked out of his room rubbing his forehead.
"No luck I'm guessing?" Louie said leaning against a wall. Scrooge looked at him.
"Nope." Scrooge said pulling his tophat down a bit and walking down the stairs to go tell Goldie.
"Did they find her?!" Goldie said looking at Scrooge. Scrooge shook his head and she sunk back into her chair. The truth is, they had lost hope. But they weren't going to stop until they found her. Scrooge hadn't lost hope on Arabelle, he lost hope on the searchers. He was going to find her himself. He walked up the stairs and into his room and began packing his bags.
"Where do you think you are going." Goldie said walking into their room. Scrooge turned his head and tightened his bags.
"To find Arabelle." He said dryly. Goldie's heart dropped a bit.
"No, you're not." She said worriedly but firmly.
"Yes, I am." He growled getting a bit annoyed at this.
"No! What if you get lost... Or... What if something happens to you! I can't lose you too..." She said some tears rolling down her cheeks. Scrooge sighed. He was tired of this crying act. He wanted to yell in rage but he didn't.
"Arabelle wasn't as experienced as I am. There's nothing you can say to make me stay, so don't bother trying. It doesn't matter how long I'm out there, I'm not coming back without her." He said walking past her. She quickly followed him trying to think of her response.
"Scrooge wait!" She said grabbing onto his arm. He jerked his head to face her.
"What is it?" He said turning his body.
"Good luck." She said kissing him and cupping his cheeks with her hands. He smiled softly and kissed her back he waved and walked out the door.
"And where's he going?" Huey said turning a page on the book he was reading.
"He's going to find Arabelle." Goldie said looking at Huey. She explained to everybody his reasoning and that there was nothing she could do to stop him. He was Scrooge McDuck, but my god was he hard-headed.
Scrooge walked. He didn't know where he was going, but he was going wherever he wanted. He was going to find Arabelle and that's that. He trudged through swamps, swam through lakes, climbed mountains, and dug tunnels, but he hadn't found her. He was dirty, tired, thirsty, hungry, and Scrooge McDuck. Some grit wasn't going to stop him, he's going to find his daughter. He was sitting next to a river resting for a bit when he heard something. He immediately stood up and looked in the direction ready to fight whatever was coming his way. Then all of a sudden, a very familiar face appeared from the bushes.
"Arabelle?" Scrooge cried weakly, his eyes beginning to glisten.
"Dad?!" She said fully climbing out of the bush. They stood there and looked at each other in disbelief, the wind hitting them ever so gently. Arabelle ran toward Scrooge and he embraced her.
"You found me!" She yelled happily, tears streaming down her cheeks. He hugged her then looked her in the eyes. His little Arabelle was finally safe with him. He picked her up gently.
"You've been out here much longer than I have, get some rest. When you wake up we'll be home." He said kissing her forehead and began walking. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep since she was exhausted. It was a long walk, but Arabelle slept through it without any disturbances. She woke up when she felt Scrooge shift her a bit. And her feet get set on the ground. She rubbed her eyes and looked forward. They were at the gate to the manor. Excitement flowed through her body and she let out a ginormous smile. He typed in the code to the gate and it slowly began to open. The loud metal pieces clanking together. Goldie threw the door open and ran towards them. She wrapped an arm around Scrooge and rapped the other around Arabelle in a warm embrace.
"YOU'RE HOME! YOU ACTUALLY FOUND HER!" Goldie sobbed. Soon after the entire family ran out the greet and hug them. It felt great finally being home with her family.
"Let's get you in the bath, I'll prepare dinner." Beakley said holding her hand out for Arabelle to take. Arabelle held Beakleys hand and got lead into the bathroom. She walked in and Beakley walked out. The bathroom, it felt amazing to be in the bathroom. She set the bath temp and slowly got in.
"Awh yeah, this feels nice." She said watching a rubber ducky float by. She laid in there for about 20 minutes then got out and ate dinner. The best feeling about being home though, was seeing her room. She plopped onto her bed and stretched.
"Feels nice to lay on a matress and not hay and leaves." She said fluffing her pillow and pulling her blanket over her head. At last, she was home with her family. She was finally safe.
