I opened my eyes and immediately squinted in regret.
The room I was in was extremely bright with it's blinding white lights and walls.
After my eyes adjusted I realized that I was in the hospital.
A faint beeping noise was coming from the machine next to me and a needle stuck out of my arm.
I felt slightly dizzy and light headed but the pain was gone.
"Lexi?"
A familiar voice reached my ears.
"Mom?" I whispered.
"Oh sweetie! Thank god you woke up!"
There were traces of tear stains running down her face.
"Mom? Are you alright?" I asked.
Tears started to well up in my eyes. Whenever I saw my mom cry I would cry.
"Oh Lexi! Don't worry about me! I'm fine, especially now that you are awake!"
"What happened? Where is Chris and Claire?" I asked.
She looked at me with so much pain and love. I was so angry that my parents and brother had to go through all this crap. They did not deserve this.
"Lexi!!!" Screamed a little high pitched voice.
"Louis!" I said with so much happiness.
He ran up and gave me his version of a great bear hug.
"Louis, don't strangle your sister." Mom said with a giggle.
"I was worried about you, sissy!" Said Louis.
His large blue eyes twinkled in the fluorescent lights of the hospital room.
"You don't need to worry about me, Louis. I am always here for you no matter what!" I promised him.
He just laughed and gave me another hug.
"How are you, Lexi?" Asked my dad.
His hair was messy and sticking up in every direction. Tear lines stained his face as well and his eyes were puffy.
He gave me his dorky smile but it was slightly lopsided...
"I really am doing fine! You and mom look horrible! Please tell me I didn't do this to you!" I begged.
"No no no! Sweetie! You didn't do any of this!" My mom said.
"Then why? Why must you both cry? I need you two to be strong for me! And especially strong for Louis!" I pleaded.
"We know, honey... It's just-"
"No Henry, we don't need to burden her with this right now." My mom interrupted.
"Burden me with what? Tell me!"
They both looked at each other and turned back to me.
"They changed the date..." My mom trailed off because she started choking on her sobs.
"Wait, what? What do you mean?" I asked in confusion.
"Lexi... You have six months left." My dad said, and he too started crying.
"What are you guys talking about?" Asked Louis.
Poor Louis... He doesn't understand that his sister is dying...
"Oh don't worry Louis. It's nothing." I whispered.
Tears spilled down my face and I cried.
I cried and cried and cried.
I needed the meadow, but I couldn't get there.
My parents rushed over to me and cried by my side.
"We are so sorry Lexi!" My parents both said.
I stared at them through my blurry vision.
"No... I'm sorry."
And we just continued to cry in silence until all of us had fallen asleep.
