“And she shall bring forth a son and you shall call him Jesus for he shall save his people from sins.”
Said the priest in Italian.

After that we knelt and prayed.  Then we stood.
“Lord hear us,” he said.

“Lord, graciously hear us.”
The church responded.

It was a little difficult  keeping up since the service was not conducted in English but from the last time I had gone to church  I remembered how to respond.

I prayed for myself, for my family, to return home and for Marcus...could I pray for him?

Was his soul not lost already,  who could you ask?

I'd never know  I guess. Who had ever read about vampires from the bible?

We finished the service with Christmas carols:
O come, o come Emmanuel,  Mary did you know and hark now hear.

My nerves got the best of me. I kept flitting my eyes left and right. This was surprising that there was no vampire trailing me, from the Volturi.

“Marcus, I hope your plan won’t end up killing us.”
Marcus had left after telling me of Ambrogio, the original vampire.

He had met him and he was Aro’s creator and the creator of many coven leaders apparently.

He said Ambrogio could stop Aro and free us. But how could I trust someone I had never met…
Just have faith in me; I will protect you… no matter what...Marcus had told her.

I drew the fur coat tighter around my body. I was no longer in so much pain; and Christmas Eve was nearing.

I sighed. When would I see my family again?
 God, please take me home

As I re-entered the castle the guards bowed. I supposedly smelled less horrendous now that I had one day of my period left. Benjamin, Demetri and Renata joined me. They were coiled like springs.

“How was church?” said Demetri.
“It was so good and it was full of joy. It really lifted my spirits.”

They nodded.
“Come on, tell me what’s going on…I can see you guys are tense.”

“Aro has called the whole coven together, including you.” Renata whispered.

I halted. Their eyes were desolate.
“Whatever happens we’re sorry.”

Those were Benjamin’s last words to me as I walked to the feeding room.

There were thirty vampires in the room. They watched me with their judgmental red eyes.

My friends stood behind me protectively. There was one empty throne…Marcus’. The throne on the right had Caius and in the centre was Aro, garbed in their steely black robes.

A wicked smile drew over Aro’s face.
“Makayla Benjamin. Now, has come the time for your judgement. As you know the law has no leeway for mortals knowing of our existence and my brother has refused to take responsibility for you.”

“So, let me guess you’re just gonna kill me, like last time, right?” I replied.
Aro stood and strode towards me.

“I said my brother will not take responsibility for you. I am more than happy to. Join us and this crime will be absolved.”

I laughed.
“You’re happy taking responsibility for me, as what of mine?
What gives you the right to take responsibility for me…oh, that’s right! You committed the crime and as usual you have to cover your tracks.”

Aro’s eyes burnt.
“It would be in your best interest to become a vampire, or the other outcome for you will not be pleasant.”

“Is that what you tell all the people you blackmail. I won’t give in to you. I know your true character…you pretend to be sentimental and partial to justice but you are just a callous, manipulative snake who’s not afraid to hurt the ones close to you to get what you want!”
