Elle takes slow, painful steps in my direction. The worries inside her head dancing across her face. I knew I was giving her too much. More than what she could take but I wasn't going to skip over details or sugar coat stuff. I knew in my heart that's not what she wanted. I owed her my complete honesty.
If she found out I lied, which her smart ass probably will in time, I'd be done for. No more second chances will be coming my way. I was completely over gambling with her as my pawn. Elle's gaze fleets to the door behind me for just a second before she looks back at me.
"The worst part of the truth is done. Nothing that I tell you from now will be as bad. So if you're still willing to stay after what I've just said, I can guarantee you the rest won't have you running for the hills" I spoke those words in confidence.
Her face evolved from being skeptical and she moved closer. When she stepped at an arms length from me, she licked her lips, waiting for my response. "What's your request?" I asked and something deeper than hurt flashed in her eyes.
Elle has always been this way, so open and expressive, even as a kid. Had I known at the time, how crucial this human would turn out to be, I'd have been nicer to her the first time we met. But then again I had never been nice to anyone, not even my brothers.
I offer her my hand and despite the bitter face she made, she took it without a second thought. The fucking trust—it clutched my insides. Gently, I pulled her to my lap. I traced the dried up trails of tears that were left behind on her cheek, my lips kissing her jaw line, inhaling her sweet, sweet scent.
"Umm—could you not give shit to Josh about earlier? It was my fault, I pretended to be sick so he'd leave me for enough time for me to sneak away" Her breath is caught in her throat and I can feel the goosebumps that broke out all over her skin. In my head I could picture her stubbornness getting the best of her, stupid of me to even consider that Josh could keep her confined to a room. I couldn't help it, I grinned pulling back to see her gorgeous face as I said the words, "I fucking love you"
Green eyes that I'd fallen for long ago, widen at me, letting the meaning of what I just said settle in. Very timidly she questioned, her voice a soft whisper, "For real?"
The fear in her tone was so evident, as if she thought she was dreaming and any second now she'd be awake and none of this would have happened. I grip her chin, bringing her mouth down to mine. I give her the sweetest kiss I could muster and it took her a second to realize I wasn't just her imagination.
The stitches of her skirt rip as she throws herself at me, her arms circling around my neck, fingers lacing with the strands of my hair. I caress her face, feeling her melt into me. Become me.
I could've kissed her forever had I not felt a presence at the doorway. Elle had definitely failed to take notice of that because when I pull back, she whimpers. Josh stood away from us, his head turned towards the wall. "Sorry to interrupt boss, but your brother is on his way here" He announced, unfazed.
"Is he alone?" I didn't have the need to ask him which brother he was referring to. For I trusted Elon enough to not keep a tab on him. But my youngest brother was a whole another story.
"Yes, should I get the men ready?" He questioned. I nodded and he left right away.
"Get ready for what? What's happening?" Elle inquired, her body growing tense.
"You still have that dagger on you?" I ask pushing the strands of her hair away from her face. The constant need to see her stunning face getting the best of me. Eyebrows pulled together she clutches on to my shirt, crumpling the fabric between clenched fists.
