"After you, Mrs McKenzie" Josh gestured for me to take the lead. A couple of minutes had passed since Logan walked out on us and I learned my tantrums were not going to get me anything.

With a sigh I began walking, it was the middle of the day yet my body felt tired and in need of some rest. But I also needed to get home. I didn't even get a chance to talk to Vic since last night. I wondered if Seth told him what happened.

"I need to make a call" I mumbled out, stopping in the middle of the hallway. He looks at my face warily and I knew he was trying figure out what's going on in my brain.

"I just need to talk to to my brother. Let him know I'm alright" I assure him, to which he narrows his eyes. "I promise, I'm not trying to cause any trouble"

With a frown plastered on his face, he gives in; fishing out his iPhone and handing it to me. I dial my brother's cell in a heartbeat. The number of times I've reached out to him, I could probably call him with my eyes closed. He picks up on the first ring.

"Hey, Vic—"

"Where are you? Did that fucking asshole hurt you? I'm gonna fucking kill—"

"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Language mister!" I cut him off. I've never heard Vic be this aggressive towards anybody so I take a second to conceal my surprise. It only reminds me he's all grown up.

He takes a deep breath, "Where are you?"

"Home" I stated looking up at the ceiling. It has been a while since I have spent my nights here and to be honest I miss being in this place. "I'm going to be staying for a couple of days" I added.

"Did he hurt you Elle? Is that why you're not coming back? Because if that's the case I can come pick you up" His voice was grim and I could read the traces of anger in it.

"No. I'm fine, just have some things to deal with" I respond to which goes quiet for a minute.

"So it's true, you moved because of me?"

"Not entirely. Look, things are complicated between Logan and I but that has nothing to do with you. Remember when I told you about what Dad really did for a living?"

"Yeah..."

"Well, there's more to it and I will explain it all when I get back. Is Seth with you?"

"Yeah, he's setup camp outside with three of his people" Good. Means he's following instructions. Initially, when he first started working under me, I had given him strict orders to protect Vic in case I ever disappear or die. And this kind of feels like the same.

"Can you ask him to send someone with the documents I had with me in the car yesterday? I'll also need my phone, and some clothes" My gaze turns to Josh as he looks at me patiently.

"I can do that. But promise me you'll call back once you have your phone. You need to tell me everything, I'm not a baby anymore, Elle. I can help you. And I can protect you" His words were so confident and they meant the world to me, although I would never want him to put himself in danger just to save me.

"I promise, I'll talk to you soon okay?"

"Okay, love you"

"Love you too Vic"

I return the phone back to it's owner, feeling a little less mad and little more forgiving. I couldn't blame Logan for what he was doing, maybe not completely. He did know his father better than me. What he probably doesn't know is how serious his fathers condition is.

Watching death loom over you that closely, it can bring out big changes in people.

So no matter how ruthless and selfish Brandon McKenzie might have been in the past, I'm willing to give him that second chance. I just needed to make Logan believe me, which he might once he sees those contract papers.
