After returning home from the mission, Uncle Minato gave us two days off to look at houses. I sighed, getting out of bed and changing into my outfit when I was not on missions, which was just black shorts and a sky-blue tank top with a daisy.
As I walked out of my room, seeing Uncle Minato and Aunt Kushina amid a conversation while drinking tea, I felt a twinge of nostalgia for this house. I loved this cramped little cottage but knew we needed more space.
Aunt Kushina, always quick to notice my mood, smiled at me. "Hana, we're going to have a look at some new places today. Hopefully, we'll find one we all love. Have some breakfast before we go,"
I forced a smile and sat down at the dining table with them. She stood up to grab a plate and placed it in front of me. I thanked her and started eating. I couldn't help but shake my mixed feelings about leaving this place. So many memories were tied to this place, but I knew they were trying their best.
I didn't want to rain on their parade about moving, and I had one negative memory associated with this place. It would be best to get a new place to create new memories.
"Yeah, I'm kind of tired of having a boiler inside my bedroom," I said with a forced smile, trying to be supportive.
After finishing breakfast and cleaning up, we exited our house to look at new ones.
"The realtor is supposed to meet with us at the cat cafe," Uncle Minato said, and we headed there.
The cat cafe seemed to be bustling with activity today. I've never seen it this busy before. Aunt Kushina pointed toward a man with shaggy brown hair who wore a nice professional outfit. We sat down at the table with him, and he pushed two mugs and a cup of iced coffee in front of us. There was also a plate of baked goods.
"You remembered," Uncle Minato chuckled as he pushed an iced coffee toward me. "This one is the coffee lover in our family,"
"Yup, I have to appeal to my clients somehow," the man chuckled, sounding polite and charming.
"Thank you," I nodded at him and put the straw in my mouth to take a sip. He also remembered my order.
Uncle Minato or Aunt Kushina must have told him what I liked to brighten my mood. I really did appreciate them.
As I ate the cranberry-orange scone, I listened to him discuss the available listings. He then put some papers down in front of us to look at. Every house I saw on the paper seemed to have some flaws that I didn't like.
One was too small, another too close to the academy, and the other had an HOA. I knew how much of a nightmare HOAs could be because Aunt Kushina would always warn me to pick a house that didn't have one.
They decided which houses they wanted to look at, and I followed them as they chatted with the realtor. We stopped at the first house, which looked nice on the outside and had a garden. Walking in, it seemed way too outdated for my liking.
"Interesting," Minato said as he looked around. "How many bedrooms?"
"There's three bedrooms and one bathroom," The realtor replied.
Uncle Minato gave Aunt Kushina a look, and she shook her head.
"We want something with more bedrooms," She said, "Maybe a little newer too. Minato wanted a separate room for his office. Plus, Hana here likes to take forever getting ready, so we're going to need another bathroom,"
I puffed my cheeks out in embarrassment when she said that, and she laughed, putting her hand on my shoulder.
"I don't take THAT long..." I muttered.
"I see," The realtor replied, chuckling at her joke, "Then let's go to our second listing,"
The second house was almost nice, but the neighbor was way too nosy for our liking, and Aunt Kushina hated the popcorn ceiling and carpet everywhere except for the bathrooms. She was adamant about hardwood flooring because she was tired of the carpets triggering her allergies. The next two were also a miss because Uncle Minato didn't like how there weren't any office spaces.
"What about that last one we saw on the papers?" Uncle Minato suggested. "That one seemed nice enough,"
I didn't know what house he was talking about, but I followed them to the house. I saw Obito passing by, and he was by himself this time instead of being glued to Rin's side. He glanced at me when he noticed me, and because I was still petty about how he'd been acting with Rin, I turned my head away.
I hoped that Uncle Minato and Aunt Kushina didn't see what happened. Although, I doubt Uncle Minato was clueless, given how perceptive he is. He didn't say anything if he did notice the interaction, at least.
As we continued walking to the next listing, I wondered if it would be a miss, like all the other houses we looked at today.
We stopped walking, and I was already surprised by the size of the house. It was a two-story house with stairs leading to the front door. It was in a quieter area, and the space between the house and the neighbor's house was perfect.
Part of me still didn't want to let go of our old house, but when I saw Aunt Kushina smiling at the lawn space, I couldn't help but smile. I knew just how badly she wanted space for a garden so she could start growing our own fruits and vegetables.
"I see the girls already like it," The realtor chuckled, "Let's go take a look inside,"
Walking in, he explained how the house was newly built and had all the modern conveniences we could want. The living room was spacious, and it even had four bedrooms and another room that could be used for the office Uncle Minato always wanted. There were two full-sized bathrooms and a half-sized one, too.
This time, I could see myself helping Aunt Kushina cook inside the kitchen or Uncle Minato working on paperwork inside the office. As I looked through the bedrooms, I liked this one room near the balcony upstairs. It was spacious and had enough closet space to put laundry away properly.
Aunt Kushina wasn't a fan of the way I just shoved clothes in my dresser, but that was because the boiler took up the closet space.
Uncle Minato called for me in the hall, and I walked out, seeing his excitement beaming off of him.
"This is it," He said, grinning, "This is the one."
Aunt Kushina and I exchanged excited looks. We were all in agreement. This was the perfect place for us.
They discussed payment plans, and I felt a pang of sadness at the thought of leaving our old cottage. But I knew that this new house would be filled with new memories. I at least had the extra space to look forward to now.
As we left the house to return to our old home, Aunt Kushina said we needed to start packing as soon as possible. They already discussed putting our cottage-style home up for sale now that we would be moving in next week. Moving would be quick since my uncle is the Yellow Flash.
"You know, Hana," Aunt Kushina said, stepping inside. "Minato and I know how much you've been wanting a cat, and now we'll have enough space for one. You can get one when we move,"
"Do you really mean it?" I smiled.
"Yes," She nodded. "I also remembered how you told me about the little calico kitten at the cat cafe a few weeks ago, so tomorrow we can go fill out adoption papers if she is still there."
I was happy to get a cat, at least. I've wanted one for a long time, but every time I asked, I was told that we didn't have room for one.
