A young woman dressed in a rather classy and elegant way, wearing a white coat on her shoulders was standing in front of them. Even if he liked a man, Eli could not help but be subjugated by her beauty while Aesop on his side seemed rather bored by seeing this person. The woman sketched a smile at Eli before returning her attention to Aesop as she did a few seconds ago.
"I didn't expect to see you here." she said.
"Neither was I, Mary..."
"You know her Aesop...?" asked Eli.
"You could say that."
That answer was rather vague. The two definitely knew each other so why such a reaction ? The woman named Mary seemed to have noticed Eli's troubled look because she let out a soft laugh before answering again.
"Let's say that I might be partly responsible for his breakup." she announced with frankness.
"And I'm very grateful to you for showing me his true colors !" replied Aesop in a sarcastic tone.
Eli didn't really understand what they were talking about until the pieces of the puzzle slowly came together in his mind. Responsible for his breakup...? Was she the person Joseph had cheated on Aesop with !? Eli frowned as he looked at her, the young woman seemed to be perfectly aware of what she had done and yet she didn't seem to have an ounce of remorse.
"I just whispered a few sweet words to him for fun and it's his fault for falling for it when he was already dating someone else ~"
"Yes yes, I should have listened to you from the beginning..." said Aesop slightly irritated.
"Indeed. Anyway, I have things to do so I'll leave you to it, see you next time maybe ~"
And just like that, the mysterious Mary left. Something wasn't right though, something in Aesop's last sentence.
"What do you mean you should have listened to her..." asked Eli shyly.
"Ugh... Actually, Mary is a childhood friend. She warned me that Joseph was the frivolous type and that I shouldn't get attached to him but I ignored her advice and fell for him anyway and here I am now."
Eli didn't know what to say. He now knew the whole truth but there was nothing he could do to comfort his friend. Aesop told him that he had moved on but he didn't believe him, he had noticed her slightly pained expression every time Joseph's name was mentioned. After that, they both left the café to go to class. They didn't have any classes together that day so they didn't see each other much.
Later in the day, Eli was walking in the grassy area near his building to get some fresh air. He saw a familiar figure near the fountain and walked towards it, Mary. He was not quite satisfied with what he had learned and wanted to know her point of view. The latter smiled when she saw Eli approaching her.
"You're Aesop's friend, right?"
"Th-that's right... Eli."
"I suppose you have a reason for coming to see me ?"
"Why... Why did you do that ? Wasn't that a little extreme ?"
The young woman was silent for a moment and then looked into Eli's blue eyes. The male wasn't really sure if it was the right thing to do or not but his curiosity was killing him. Mary laughed softly before ruffling the boy's hair, she was a little taller than him as well as wearing high heels so it wasn't really complicated. Eli looked at her a little dumbfounded.
"Aesop is like a younger brother to me, I knew Joseph wasn't the one for him and I would do anything to protect him even if it meant I had to hurt him." she stated.
"I-I see..."
"You seem to care a lot about him from what I can see... I hope your feelings reach him ~"
She left him after saying that last sentence. Eli just stood there, embarrassed. Yet another person who had seen clearly into his feelings. Was he that transparent ? Yet Aesop didn't seem to have noticed yet, at least he thought. So much has happened lately. He needed to refresh his thoughts a bit so he sent a message to his two friends, Naib and Luca. It had been a while since the three of them spent time together...
