t.w - mentions of abusive behaviors and homophobic slurs
p.s this is my calm songA week had past and Newt was beyond surprised. It was now Friday morning; Aris hadn't made a moved on him, let alone talked to him at all. Newt was ecstatic!
Their gang watched as Newt made his way over to their corner of the schoolyard. Thomas noticed how insanely happy he was and his chest warmed up. "Here comes your lover," Gally cracked to Thomas, which earned him a slap on the chest.
"Hey Dead Shank!" Minho yelled at him. Ever since he called him that in Spanish, it stuck as his nickname. The other nickname was Lizard Boy by Gally, Newt didn't like that one very much.
"Hey guys." The boy smiled at them and sat on the wall next to Thomas. His legs dangled a bit off from the ground, his Converse shoes nudged the brick behind them every so often. Newt pulled out his notebook and began to write.
Thomas watched as the words spilled out onto the paper. He loved how Newt and such a way with words. He relished in the fact that he was even allowed to see it.
Words came out in the dozens, the page filled up in less than 5 minutes. Newt lived to write, even if it was only an escape from the life he was already in.
He sensed the presence of Thomas, who watched as Newt wrote. Newt smiled to himself and wrote on the corner of the page.
'tommy, it isn't nice to read my thoughts without asking'
He heard a boisterous laugh from the brunette beside him. Thomas shuffled around and grabbed Newt's notebook from his hands.
"Tommy!" Newt said as he tried to get the notebook back. "Nope, this is payback," Thomas said while jumping off the wall. He sprinted across the yard and stood by the hedges. Newt ran after him, only being slowed a little by his limp.
He came to a stop right before Thomas and gave him a look. Thomas started to laugh and he held the notebook behind him. Newt raised his eyebrows at him and went to reached for the papers.
Thomas kept switching the hand it was in and moving faster than Newt could grab it at. Newt laughed when Thomas tripped over his own feet while trying to move back from Newt. He ended up on the floor in front of him, the notebook a couple feet away from them.
"Tommy, I didn't think you'd fall for me this fast," Newt joked and Thomas smiled at him. "Neither did I," Thomas smirked. Newt's check heated up at his response.
Aris stared at this and he was pissed. He's tried so hard to get at Newt for years. Thomas, in only a few months, has gotten Newt to like him way more.
"Hey Ben, you should take that gay kid's book," Aris said while pointing at Newt. Ben looked over and saw Thomas. "Dude, Thomas is over there though," Ben said.
"What, you're scared of some faggot who broke your arm in eighth grade?" Aris said while pushing him forward towards them. Rachel laughed at what Aris said and she scooted closer to him. "No, I'm not," Ben scoffed.
They didn't see Ben walking up to them with an evil grin on his face. "Oh what's this?" Ben said, picking up the notes from the ground. "I've never found this kind of bliss in a person. Never have I felt such an escape from the world around me. He's like a universe conformed and molded into a human." Ben recited out and laughed at him. "Oh my God! Aris was right, you're gay!"
Thomas listened to what Ben said and looked at Newt. He was curious about who the poem was about.
"Give that back," Newt said, trying to sound as stern as possible. "I don't think that's gonna happen, I think many other people would love to see these creepy ass writing about this boy."
