Late afternoon by the park...
Dolly's ears perked up hearing what sounded like Dawkins' voice. As Dylan bumped into her, who was continuing to list reasons on why Dawkins hasn't returned from his break.
She immediately turned his head seeing Dawkins and his new friend. Happily in a conversation under a shade by the tree.
"Oooh, do you think he's gonna try and ask her out?" Dolly said as Dylan pulled away but, amused at the idea of his younger brother having a crush.
"Maybe but, I'm sure we could easily persuade his new friend to another hang out session."
"Just in case, he doesn't have the words to describe this new feeling." Dylan said as Dolly snickered.
The older siblings met up with Dawkins and (Y/N). After the usual introductions, Dolly spoke up taking a mental note of (Y/N) having a sharp mind like Dawkins.
"Say (Y/N), since you're asking about needing an extra paw."
"For sorting some stuff at a pet friendly junkyard."
"I'm sure Dawkins wouldn't mind!" Dolly said sidehugging Dawkins as Dylan added another comment.
"He's the best pup for the job since he made a lot of adjustments to my previous inventions."
"And work will probably done in a flash."
"Leaving additional free time for more delightful conversations!" Dylan said as Dawkins blushed at the mention of the word delightful while (Y/N) smiled back at the freckled pup.
"W-what do you mean by delightful-"
"Well if you two put it that way, then okay!"
"Dawkins, do you want to meet by the park again?"
"Its still a maze at the newly renovated junkyard so I wouldn't want you to get lost in there." (Y/N) said as Dawkins gulped with a fully flushed face.
"S-sure, I assume the weekend would be fine for a rendezvous."
"Erm, maybe same time around the afternoon?" Dawkins stuttered as (Y/N) nodded with her tail wagging in an excited manner.
"Okay, see you soon Dawkins!" (Y/N) said as she ran off to one of her colleagues back from a pet salon.
Before Dawkins could glare back at his siblings. Fergus, a fox from one of the Canal Crew, showed up on the scene.
"Yo Dawkins, today must be your lucky day!"
"Scoring a date before Dylan or Dolly!" Fergus said causing the duo of spotted dogs to look at the fox with astonished reactions.
"What do you mean by that?!"
"Its because of us that Dawkins got a date with (Y/N)!" Dolly exclaimed as Fergus blew a raspberry.
"Sure, while Dolly still acts all dreamy around Hansel."
"But, can barely keep her cool trying to talk to him."
"And Dylan, dude you need to move on from Portia."
"She's a bit messed up letting you eat a cat hairball."
"Which you are clearly allergic to, after you lost a dare to her."
Fergus sighed crossing his arms.
"I mean, while Dawkins shares some of the traits Dylan has."
"(Y/N) would have gotten a better hint of the date idea."
"If she heard it from Dawkins himself..." Fergus said as Dylan furrowed his brows.
"Says the fox, who thought it was okay,"
"To not be myself and try to appeal towards Portia's ideal type..." Dylan said as Fergus facepalmed.
"If I knew from Spencer, that Portia tends to be weird around crushes."
"I could have maybe done things a bit differently but, aside from that."
"Maybe tease Dawkins once he's done with the date."
"Since (Y/N)'s aware of the fact that, you two used to see Dawkins as the unappreciated sidekick." Fergus said as the older siblings frowned.
Dawkins spoke up at an attempt to defuse the slight tension in the air.
"Given how, Dolly and Dylan might also be worried at the possiblity of bad luck during the date."
"I could allow Fergus to be on stand by as a last resort."
"For example, giving a signal if things aren't going well."
"But, I would still give (Y/N) a chance so hopefully, I made my point clear." Dawkins said.
The trio met with surprised expressions for a few seconds but, then nodded in agreement with smiles all around.
Timeskip to the next weekend early afternoon by the junkyard...
Dawkins and (Y/N) watched from a safe distance as one of the humans started smelting a handful of heavy iron into various metallic shapes. (Y/N) immediately typed on the tablet to find a picture of crinkle cut french fries.
"Last week, someone had curly fries for lunch."
"So seeing it, beside a box of some spiral coils."
"Made the whole room gasp at the funny comparison!" (Y/N) said as Dawkins snickered.
"I guess you could say, it set off a chain reaction in the best outcome imaginable."
"Lunch with a side of laughter, boosting everyone's spirit!" Dawkins said as (Y/N) giggled.
"That's a cheesy way of describing it but, still cute!" (Y/N) said as the dalmatian pup began to blush.
"I'm really not used to this sort of casual conversations."
"So I might have picked up on some of my older siblings' habits of how they usually talk..." Dawkins said lightly scratching his ear as (Y/N) grinned.
"Don't worry about it, I think you're doing just fine!"
"It takes time to get to know someone."
"And its worth it, when they can express on what makes them happy or need a shoulder to cry."
"Something about communication being a key factor to a healthy relationship-"
(Y/N)'s face immediately turned pink stopping herself from continuing that sentence.
"You still bring up a good point about communication."
"Although, I didn't expect that you would be a bit flustered about this topic."
"Are you okay to continue or prefer to change the subject matter?" Dawkins asked with (Y/N) replying the second option with a flushed face.
By the metallic stair case, Fergus half smiled as the older siblings dropped their jaws.
("(Y/N)'s probably lucky that Dawkins' is more concerned with how she's feeling.")
("Because if he was the type of pup that could flirt.")
("She wouldn't be teasing him all the time.") Fergus whispered as the puppy couple resumed back to a light hearted conversation.
