Elinor saw the already set table as she entered the little room, noticing the small details he had added, a single lit candle and two red napkins. He smiled, excitingly grabbing one of the chairs and pulling it slightly back, making a hand gesture as an indication for her to sit. She did so and he disappeared behind the kitchen counter, grabbing his towel that was draped around his neck earlier and getting something out of the oven that was out of Elinor's sight. She could just smell the delicious odour that filled the room now, a mixture of fresh italian herbs and tomatoes.
She traced her gaze around the kitchen and grinned tacitly, noticing all the cooking books that laid messily on the counters.
"I hope you like lasagna?", Jamie raised an eyebrow at her as he put the hot casserole onto a leaf-shaped trivet in the center of the small table.
Elinor closed her eyes as she leaned over the steaming hot pasta, enjoying the aromatic smell. "It's perfect, Jamie.", she looked over to him, as he moved to the side of the table."Thanks for inviting me." She leaned up slightly, pecking his lips.
"Always, love." Jamie said, smiling at her for some seconds before he cut out a generous portion onto her plate, doing so for himself as well. He then reached for the red wine bottle next to him and poured both of their glasses half full. Wandering back to the kitchen, he hung the towel back on a little hook and rejoined Elinor at the table shortly afterwards, sitting opposite her and scooting the chair in.
"Bon appetit!", Jamie raised his glass slightly.
"Yes, bon appetit.", Elinor said, looking into his hazel eyes that were now illuminated by the faint light of the candle.
She then lifted a fork and tucked into the hot meal in front of her, guiding it past her lips. Jamie watched her attentively, eager for her reaction. Elinor hummed as she chewed, calming his nerves as he supported his head on his intertwined hands, his elbows resting next to his plate.
"I'm glad you like it.", he said, tacitly watching her as she took a sip from her glass.
„I spent the entire day, practicing my cooking skills." he pointed at the lasagna „This, is a masterpiece.""Indeed" she chuckled, scooping up another bite. The two of them chatted a bit and finished the food. The sky was getting darker and darker, not only because of the storm that started to rampage outside but also because of the sun eventually disappearing behind the horizon.
"How about some dessert now?", Jamie said after a while, scooting his chair back and making his way over to the refridgerator and reaching in. He pulled out a whole carrot cake and cut two large slices, looking over to her over the counter and smirking, amused by her curious expression. "It's even self-bought.", he added proudly, balancing the two plates back to the small table.
"So not a chef after all?", Elinor mocked playfully, supporting her head on one hand.
"Darling, you can't expect me being able to cook and bake.", he pouted playfully and put them down, rejoining her at the table.
"No worries, I love carrot cake.", Elinor laughed, tucking her fork in. „Now..tell me about you", Elinor said „Anything I don't know yet."
„Me? hmm...", he mused, tapping his chin „I love annoying people with my awful singing.", he finally said, picking up a piece of cake and shoving it into his mouth.
„Annoying me would just end up in a duet .", Elinor laughed "but I can also sit quietly and listen of course. We don't want to ruin your concert, do we?", she raised her eyebrows, forking up her dessert.
"Oh I give a lot of solo concerts in my bathroom.", he said „bad for my neighbors though", he added, raising his hands in innocence.
„I would ask for a private concert If I was your neighbor.", Elinor said coyly, giving him a sheepish grin.
