Lan Sizhui's eyes open slowly, he feels slightly groggy and that's odd since he usually is a morning person, then it comes back to him.
Before falling asleep he had been pampered and tucked in by no other than his mom.
As the memory comes back to him his cheeks slightly turn pink feeling embarrassed for having Wei Wuxian treat him like a parent before he even asked him to be his mommy or after the fact that last time he saw him he had almost died protecting his life.
Lan Sizhui can feel hot tears at the edges of his eyes being reminded of almost losing someone that is so important to him, he had already lost both his parents it would be so cruel if he'd lose his new mom too.
"A-Yuan"
Lan Sizhui looks over at the door frame and he can feel himself smile, he usually didn't really show any emotions on his face openly because people always expected him to show his heart on his sleeve as a child but only person he naturally did so around is his parents.
Only in front of them did he feel like he could be completely vulnerable, with them he didn't have to pretend or do his best, for them he was already enough.
"How are you feeling?"
Wei Wuxian asks with a calm and low tone as he moves over to sit at the edge of the bed and place a hand on a less scalding forehead.
Feeling the temperature has dropped Wei Wuxian looks content and smiles fondly at the boy he consider his son.
"Wei Gege.."
Wei Wuxian's eyes widen slightly hearing the choked up voice, why does the child have to sounds so depressed, it pulls at his heart strings.
His hand moves to ruffle the bedridden hair poking at all directions and Wei Wuxian smiles wider feeling his child leaning into his touch. There didn't need to be words between them, the silence is always content and comfortable and they stay like that until a voice cuts through their little bubble.
"Wei Ying, the soup is boiling."
Lan Wangji looks a bit uncertain which is weird to witness for both the child and the other adult, the adult Lan never look or act uncertain.
Lan Sizhui slightly raises his eyebrow at the first time experiencing such a rare occasion, what could make his father behave like he's walking on egg shells.
"I will take care of it."
Wei Wuxian replies as he makes his way back to the kitchen leaving father and son behind.
Lan Wangji walks over to the bed and takes the same spot his soulmate had just occupied, his hand moves to cover his son's forehead and they remain in a comfortable silence until Lan Sizhui can't hold back his curiosity anymore.
"Wei Gege is still here, so, so does that mean he can stay?"
Lan Wangji remain quiet for a few more minutes but then baffles his son with a small smile, now the child of course has seen his own father smile before however it just was such a rare thing besides this smile tells a story of its own.
His question had been answered with that, it is that simple, between them at least.
Lan Sizhui now joins in and smiles back at his father and the adult is slightly taken aback seeing how fondly his son smiles knowing he will be allowed to pursuit his mother.
They stay put like smiling goofs until an aggravated voice reach them from the kitchen, it was best to follow the command especially for Lan Wangji since he has a lot to make up for.
Surprisingly the breakfast hadn't been awfully awkward or weird as Wei Wuxian had feared, rather it had been comforting. He found himself smiling at their child and making sure to help blow the hot soup so he wouldn't burn his tongue. He has to admit that he hasn't felt this content in a very long time, to look after someone that needs him and to have someone yearn for him, although he is ignoring those obvious ogle eyes of his soulmate.
It is true he gave in to the pleasure given to him and he gave in to that desire that has always been there and probably always will, it just feels like they are destined to be together. Wei Wuxian believes meeting Yuan was fate's plan all along to bring them back together and he is thankful yes, he adores the child and wish for him to be his own. However he can't just forgive and move on from Lan Wangji's stupidity that easy, no he has to work for his forgiveness.
Yes Wei Wuxian has waited a long time to be back with his soulmate, in fact he had lost hope but even so he knows he cannot just take Lan Wangji back without him working for it.
It feels good to have this control, through his life he has mostly just lived and followed people's exceptions or do what he should for other's benefit, not now, Wei Wuxian will get what he wants and he has the power to get it, so he damn sure will use it.
After lunch the small family ended up cuddling together underneath a bunch of cozy blankets as Disney movies play on repeat. Only Lan Wangji is able to stay awake and his heart feels weird, he looks down to see the person he had walked out on, the biggest mistake of his life cuddle into his side. What makes the view even more adorable is seeing his son being hugged into the safe embrace of his soulmate.
He was the reason for missing out on this, he could have had this so much sooner and realizing that makes his heart feel sour.
Lan Wangji knows that he can't just expect Wei Ying to treat him the same as in the past, they are older and even though he hates to admit it, he hurt his soulmate deeply.
It doesn't matter that he saw Wei Ying kiss another person, hence the reason he even believed those rumors in the first place. Seeing Wei Ying being in a heated kiss with a woman after saying he loved him had made Lan Wangji so confused and unsure of their obvious bond. Now he can't believe how stupid he was as a teen, it is obvious that the two of them are meant to be together and that Wei Ying feels equally the same.
As much as he'd want to justify his actions he cannot because he was in the wrong, instead of trusting his partner and ask for the truth he had walked out and left.
It's how he has always been, he always rather walk away from something troublesome but no more, he cannot behave like that anymore, he has to set an example for his son.
He will not let his son end up making his mistakes, he will show that when you hit a rough patch you work to get over it and fix things, not run away.
So having the people that mean the most to him currently cuddle up against his body underneath a mountain of blankets as the music from a Disney movie plays in the background, now that is truly a blessing.
A blessing he will make sure that he is deserving off.
