You sat in class, waiting for the bell to ring. You rested your head in the palm of one of your hands and started to doze off. You had stayed up late the previous night, so you were feeling a bit tired. You feel a hand lightly tapping your shoulder.

"Y/n", you hear a voice say.

"Kōtarō?"

You look up to see him standing over you. "School is over you know", he said to you. You looked around the classroom to see that everyone else had already left.

"Go to bed earlier next time", Bokuto said with a chuckle. Despite being a second-year and him being a third, Bokuto had been your closest friend at Fukurōdani since you first started there.

"Do you have practice today?"

"Yeah, you should come watch."

"Can I take a rain check? I'd rather go home and sleep right now."

"You sure. You'd be missing out on seeing Akaashi in action."

"Shut up", you say while hitting his arm looking flustered, while he just laughed.

Keiji Akaashi; someone who you've had a little crush on for some time now and also a close friend of Bokuto's. He was also a second-year and a setter on the volleyball team. Akaashi was a calm and collected person and never showed much emotion, so you could never figure out what was on his mind. You guys never had any real interactions despite being in most of the same classes.

"You're so annoying", you said as you stood up. You collected your things and Bokuto walked you out.

"I'll see you tomorrow okay?"

"Later Y/n", Bokuto said running off.

As you entered your house and began taking off your shoes, you could already smell the scent of cigarettes and whiskey. This was an almost everyday thing; coming home to your drunk, out-of-mind mother. Half of the time she wouldn't even be home, and to be honest, you preferred it that way. You hadn't been close to your mother in years. The death of your father left her in despair, and she coped in all the wrong ways. You walked into the living room to see your mother passed out on the couch, with empty beer bottles on the floor.

"Of course." You scoffed and went up to your room. You took off your uniform and threw yourself on your bed, not even bothering to do your homework. You instantly drift off to sleep.

The next day came by pretty quickly. You woke up to the sound of your alarm buzzing continuously.

"Damnit, it's morning already? How did I even sleep that long?"

You get up from your bed and start getting ready for school. You brushed your teeth, showered, did your hair, and made yourself breakfast. As you were waiting for Bokuto to pick you up, you hear footsteps. You turn to see your mother walking towards you.

"Good morning love. I didn't hear you come in yesterday."

"That's not surprising considering you were passed out drunk when I did", you retorted.

You turned around so that your back was now facing her. She just sighed.

"I may not be home tonight."

"That's fine", you shrugged. "I'm used to being on my own anyway."

Your mother gave no reply. She just looked down at the floor. You got a notification on your phone and when you checked, it was a text from Bokuto.
