-- calum
"alright, calum, repeat after me. 'hello, my name is calum.'"
my heart is racing. what if i screw up? this is the first i've spoken in years, besides weakly yelling 'no' at michael.
speaking of michael, both of my boys are here today, watching me with happy smiles. luke and allison are here, too, as well as ashton and my family. well, momma and mali.
i clear my throat. it tickles, painfully almost. i'm not ready to do this, but i have to. "hello, my name is calum."
i hear myself. i hear my mother burst into tears. i hear my boyfriend comforting her, telling her he's as proud as she is. i hear footsteps.
"you- you did it, callie."
his body finds mine, gripping me tight and raising me off the ground in a bone-crushing hug. despite the discomfort, i feel same in his arms.
i nod. yeah, i think, i did it.
"calum?" my instructor calls. michael puts me down, tears staining his cheeks. i feel my heart in my throat, hear it in my head. "don't you have something else to say?"
i shake my head. not now, not here.
"but we-"
"no."
"well, alright then. your session is over for today. i'll see you next saturday."
michael walks me back to our friends. "what's she on about?" he asks, slinging an arm over my shoulder. i pray my boyfriend doesn't see us.
i shrug, with difficulty. mikey's arm is a dead weight on my shoulders.
"hm. well," he turns to me, his eyes widening a bit, "i'll see you soon?"
i bite my lip and nod. "y-eah."
"okay."
he doesn't move. i don't move, either. we stand there in silence, staring at each other. i don't want to leave.
"calum?" my boyfriend's voice infiltrates my mind, snapping me from my daze. "you ready to go...?"
"ye...ah."
he grabs my arm, softly, and pulls me to him. a familiar kiss is placed on my lips, making me grin up at him. his bright blue eyes look down at me, warm and inviting. "let's go, hm?"
"yeah."
