Chapter One: Come Home with Me
Jimin:
"Come home with me for New Year's Break," Jimin said impulsively, leaning up on his elbow, laying belly down on the floor of the practice room.
Jungkook stopped dancing and turned to face him.
"I wish," he laughed and walked over to Jimin, wiping sweat off the back of his neck with a handkerchief and collapsing next to him on the floor. Jimin looked at him.
"What, are you serious?" he scoffed, "You really think our parents...I mean," he swallowed, "your Dad, I mean..." he looked into Jimin's face. "What would we say?"
Jimin swallowed too, collapsed now, turning to face the ceiling. "I don't know..." He smiled, suddenly impish and looked back at Jungkook. "Mom and Dad, I think you remember Jungkook, we work together?"
Jungkook laughed and pushed him. "And what do I tell my parents, I'm going to spend the break with Jimin's family, why?"
Jimin snaked closer to him suddenly, hand on his neck, close to his face. "You don't want to be with me, Baby?" he asked him quietly.
Jungkook:
He looked into Jimin's face. His love. The last few weeks they had settled into something so comfortable it was like it was always there.
"Of course," he found himself saying, "Of course I want to be with you.." and before he knew it they were kissing in the practice room... JK pulled back.
"But Jimin, how will my parents, and yours, not wonder at that point?" They got breaks so rarely, neither of them had ever brought another friend or member along to stay with them before, everyone eager to see their own families.
That's like something... fiances do... Jungkook thought, touching Jimin's finger as if he was imagining a ring there...
"Well," Jimin offered helpfully, "we could ... lie." Jungkook looked at him and they laughed.
.........................................................................
"Wow, Jimin-ah, it really worked," Jungkook caught up with him later. Jimin had started to walk home and Jungkook had called his parents to attempt to lie his way out of the break. In the end, something simple and nearly true sufficed, as he told his parents that he and Jimin were working hard on a collaboration and that he wanted to spend New Year's with Jimin so that they could finish by the end of the break. His parents knew and had accepted a long time ago that his work came first and didn't ask much more questions about it. He wasn't used to lying to them at all and felt a trickle of guilt...and yet he was working on something collaboratively with Jimin... he chuckled to himself.
"What are you going to say, though?"
Jimin:
Jimin had been wondering this himself. What was he going to say?
It was harder and harder to make all the different versions of Park Jimin live happily inside one body. Idol life required multiple: Sexy Jimin, Mochi Jimin, Cutie Jimin, Sweetie Jimin. His parents: Smart, successful Jimin.... Heterosexual Jimin... he swallowed.
"I guess I will say the same, that we are working together on something," he smiled nervously. But swallowing and thinking about everything, he wondered how it would be to be in such a comfortable space with Jungkook, and yet still required to hide their relationship...the thought of it made him want to squirm.
"You think we will be able to play it cool around them for four days?" Jungkook echoed Jimin's own concerns...
"I don't know," said Jimin. He looked at Jungkook and smiled. "But I don't want to be without you, Baby."
Jungkook squeezed his hand and smiled back. "I don't want to be without you, either, my love."
.....................................................................
"Mom?" Jimin stammered into the phone, his heart beat nervously. "Mom, are you there?"
"Yes, Jimin, yes." Her voice definitely sounded odd.
"Did you hear me? Is that.." he licked his lips nervously, "I mean, is that okay?"
"I mean, of course, Jimin! But won't Jungkook's own family miss him?" his Mom was indeed suspicious.
"Yeah, but..." he squirmed, and suddenly his lips were spinning a more complex lie, "They are traveling and they will be gone for longer than Jungkook can be gone, so..." he just wanted her to not be suspicious...
"Oh!" His Mom seemed relieved, "Oh, I see. I will make up the guest room for him."
Jimin swallowed, Jesus, this was awkward.
"Ah, Mom, you don't have to do that, I shared a room with him and 5 other boys for years, he can just stay in my room." he stopped talking for a second and his Mom was quiet: "I mean, I have a double bed..... We are used to sharing on tour anyway." He was inwardly groaning at the whole situation.
"Okay, Jimin, if you think that's fine." She was moving on to other topics, finally. Jimin breathed a sigh of relief.
That night as he curled up next to Jungkook, (in what had been dubbed "The Golden Closet", the work studio they had converted into the Golden Maknae's bedroom) he thought about how weird the whole situation was.
"Do you ever want to come out to your parents?" Jimin asked shyly. Jungkook looked at him, smiling nervously...
"I mean, sometimes. It feels weird to tell them everything and not to tell them about this. Feels like a lie even though I'm not saying anything." He swallowed. "But do they really want to know?"
Jimin swallowed: "I know what you mean it's like...not only are we being dishonest, it's like everyone already agreed that was for the best." He sighed. "We try so hard to be real and authentic for our fans, and yet we have to hide one of the things that makes us most happy." He held Jungkook, unable to resolve that feeling.
"Well, we don't hide it that well... apparently, #Jikook was trending insanely through December." Jungkook's voice was light but Jimin knew this was a topic that weighed on both of them. Fan edits of interviews and behind the scenes glances between them caught things that he and JK never intended to reveal.
Jungkook:
Jimin snuggled into him. Many things passed between them, unspoken. They were risking everything. The label could drop them. Their parents could disown them. Their lives could be over. They could lose everything.
They locked eyes suddenly. Jungkook thought fiercely, and it's all worth it.
He pulled Jimin close and kissed him hard.
