You know the cliché thing about vampires? Where they don't like the sun when they're exposed? Or how they feed on humans because of their desire for blood? Do they have wings and fly in the night sky?
Well...I'm about to warn you. This story's going to be a little different. It's about me. My name is Odette Hillshire and I'm one of Them...except, I don't have wings. Those are pretty much a myth.
For about 100 years, I've been dead. I've lived among the living, and have been trying to hold back on what my body's been craving for fifty years. It didn't have to be necessarily human blood, but most vampires like myself - if they chose to - feed on animal blood. It's like we're on a diet, but it keeps us in control...Usually.
Anyways, I lived with my guardian, who is human: Damien Carter; he's been adjusting ever since he found out my secret. The least I can do right now is to spare you the life we had spent together during those moments. Consider it...very sentimental.
The worst was holding back on his blood when I stepped foot in his home in the middle of the woods, thirty minutes away from the main town. The scent was so strong and so sweet that it drew me in.
Something made me pull back from killing him, though. I couldn't figure out why. I didn't want to show my weakness for humans. I wanted to be like them and live a "seemingly" normal life.
But hey, what do I know? Relationships are complicated.
