It took about half an hour for Celeste to get to the Rhode Island hospital. I stayed behind and waited for the police and ambulance to arrive. When they came, everyone was thoroughly confused on the situation. I gave them a simple story about an animal attack and charmed every one of them. They looked right back at me, entranced. Needless to say, to do this yourself is very exhausting...
Anyways, they took care of everything else once I told them I had to leave. They wouldn't remember me after that.
I ended up worrying about our absence at school for a bit. 'We've been gone for a long while,' I thought, briskly. Mr. Tanner didn't come at all to search for us. I ended up assuming he was okay with us on our own.
School would have to wait until tomorrow. It was time to go home and tell Damien about my adventure today.
~~~
"Damien?" I called as I stepped to the porch. "Are you home?"
The door opened and he smiled, letting me inside. "Hey Odette," he said and the tone changed quickly, "Is everything okay?" Damien noticed the look on my face, and set the tools down on the table. I looked around before sitting down on the couch. The room was kind of scattered, and I saw that he was working on his telescope with the tool box sitting on the side. "What's wrong, what happened today?"
"Am I am only child?" I managed to ask. "I remember being an only child. Who is she?"
"Slow down, you're spiraling." Damien said, sitting beside me. "Take a deep breath, and speak clearly."
I did as told, and looked at him. "Okay, so, we had a class project today in history." I started explaining, "I was paired with a girl named Celeste and we decided to do a project on vampires. Yes I know, it was stupid, but I wanted to know more about myself and where I came from. We went to the Brown family graveyard and then Celeste saw my twin."
He widened his eyes in surprise. "What else happened?"
"It happened sort of quickly. I tried to fight off my sibling...twin or whoever she is because she was ready to tear Celeste apart. I didn't want anyone to know who I was so I just fought her head on as a normal, human being. I don't know what's going on, Damien, and I don't have any leads. I even managed to hypnotize the police officers and the EMT people, and do you know how exhausting it is to do it all by yourself? Very!"
I held my head in my hands and I just about lost it. Damien didn't say very much, but I think he was just being careful after this morning. He knew how dire the situation was and how weird it's been. I just wish I wasn't alone. I wish there was another vampire out there that probably knows about this.
I wish hadn't turned...
"Hey, listen to me." Damien said, making me look at him. "You turned for a reason, remember? You're strong, and you're smart. You'll figure it out, you always do. You're still you, Odette."
"Some vampires don't like to have humanity." I said, and then just started stammering. "I...I need to just turn it off somehow. All my emotions are all over the place." Damien watched me as I freaked out and started getting back up. "I got to face tomorrow with a bunch of weird looks and accusations on how Celeste ended up in the hospital. I got to call her now and see if she's okay."
"Sure, take your time. I'll see you in the morning, but remember what I said. I got errands to do after you go to school." Damien nodded at me, and he walked away to the bathroom to brush his teeth. When he walked away, I went to my room and threw a random object out of frustration. It crashed and hit the wall.
I'm most likely going to be called a freak tomorrow.
