Darkness was engulfing anything in sight on this late night of mid-August. Le Petit Andely was as quiet as ever, nothing to be heard besides the gentle rattling of dry leaves due to the light summer breeze. And somewhere near the Seine, a faint tune could be heard from the open window of Luka Couffaine's room.

"God, Luka! Could you just let me talk? I'm telling you, the Doors are SO underrated, and for what? Because The Who happened to appear a couple of years earlier and people were simply preoccupied." Marinette whisper-shouted exasperated. Luka simply shook his head chuckling.

"Mari, I'm not trying to degrade the Doors, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying they're not exactly the legends of their era." Luka responded calmly while he looked through his pieces of vinyl.

Marinette let out a long sigh and flopped against Luka's bed as he carefully removed a Led Zeppelin record from his pickup.

Another sweet melody rang through Marinette's ears and she lifted herself.

"Eeerrmmm.. oh, OH! I KNOW! Deep Purple, Burn, Lay down Stay down." Marinette said excitedly.

"You're turning into a music addict, you know that?" Luka smiled at her amused. Marinette simply blushed and threw a pillow at his face. Luka caught it and raised an eyebrow. She laughed.

"Anyway, I should go," Marinette told her childhood-best friend as she slipped her black converse on. Luka frowned.

"Where?" Luka asked confused.

"Home?" She responded as a matter of fact-ly and pulled her jean jacket on, over her plain white tee. He stared as she brushed down her dark blue jeans and tucked a lock of silky, raven hair behind her ear.

"Spend the night." He said casually.

"I can't."

"Come on Mari, you always spend the night."

"Not tonight."

"Why not?"

Marinette hesitated for a second before locking her bluebell eyes on his sapphire ones.

"I just don't think it's a good idea for me to sleep over anymore, you know?" She said seriously and his frown deepened.

"No, I don't know. C'mon, you've been sleeping over ever since we were seven. It's Saturday night AND it's summer." He stated and she stared.

"Things change, Luka. Evolve." She said humorously, but Luka could tell she wasn't joking all that much.

"What are you talking about?" He asked after a beat of silence, Deep Purple still playing quietly in the background.

"Sleeping in the same bed was fine when we were kids, but we're fifteen now."

"Yeah..?" Luka smiled amused as he sat at the edge of his bed.

"We start high school on Monday?" She was getting annoyed.

"Yeah." He repeated in the exact same tone. She sighed and pointed towards her chest.

"And I have breasts!"

"What?!" His eyes widened and he chuckled awkwardly.

"And you have.. genitalia!" He laughed at that.

"I've always had genitalia."

"Yeah, well, now there's more of it." Her cheeks had begun to burn. Luka was starting to feel the embarrassment creeping down his neck but he tried to play it off.

"How do you know?"

"Long fingers. Gotta go." Marinette was a mess by now and it was getting harder to stay composed. As she was about to climb out the window and land in his yard, Luka caught her arm and stopped her.

"Whoa Mari, don't hit and run. C'mon, explain yourself." He said gently. She crossed her arms over her chest and blinked.

"I just think our emerging hormones are destined to alter our relationship and I'm trying to limit the fallout." She said as calmly as she could. Amusement found its way into Luka's eyes and he sat back down on his bed.

"Your emerging hormones aren't developing a thing for me, right?" He teased and Marinette's eyes widened.

"A thing?" She tried to act nonchalant and, thankfully, Luka didn't notice he got her all flustered. She rolled her eyes and let out a scoff.

"No, I'm not getting a thing for you, Luka. I've known you too long. I've seen you burp, barf, pick your nose, scratch your butt. I don't think I'm getting a thing for you." She listed, trying to seem confident and assured. Luka cracked a smile and approached her.

"So what's the problem, then?" He wondered obliviously.

"We're changing and we have to adjust, or else the male/female thing will get in the way." Luka could do nothing else but stare. He couldn't understand where she was going with all this.

"What's with this When Harry met Sally 80's crap. It doesn't apply to us, we transcend it."

"And how exactly do we do that?"

"By going to sleep. I'm tired." He told her and let himself flop against his bed once more. He heard Marinette snort as his eyelashes fell against his cheeks.

"That's avoidance." She told him and he groaned, running a hand over his face.

"No, that is proof, Mari. Proof that we can remain friends, despite any mounting sexual theoretics." He told her after he sat up on his elbows. She paused for a second and chewed on her lower lip in thought.

"I don't think it works that way, Luka." She finally said.

"Come on, don't get all girly on me, Mari. Should I start calling you Miss Marinette?" He joked and she let out a fake gasp of offense.

"Miss Marinette this," she said before she leaped onto the bed and attacked him with playful punches. Luka started tickling her and Marinette kicked and yelled under his grasp, trying to tickle back. After a couple of minutes, Luka had officially gotten the upper hand and was now hovering above Marinette, smiling like a maniac.

"Okay! I give in... I give in." She said defeated, desperately searching for a way to get him off of her.

"We're friends, okay?" He told her, not moving an inch.

"No matter how much body hair we acquire? Deal?" He asked and she nodded smiling.

"Deal." She said and Luka leaned back against the bed.

"All right.. and we don't ever talk about this again, deal?" He went on and Marinette laughed shortly.

"You got it."

"Okay, cool."

"Cool."

Luka climbed under the sheets and Marinette followed close behind. She turned her back to him and closed her eyes while Luka lay on his back, his eyes piercing through the ceiling.

Marinette shifted farther away from Luka and he couldn't help but notice. He stared intensely at her back and suddenly he caught her scooping closer to the edge of her side. Luka blinked.

"Why'd you have to bring this up anyway?" He groaned and Marinette pretended to have fallen asleep, a tight smile finding its way to her lips.
