"Hi there." the girl timidly said as the group of friends approached her.
"Hi. Adrien, nice to meet you." Adrien told her and extended his hand towards her. She shook it and he smiled.
Her eyes soon found Luka's and he almost collapsed to the ground. Marinette felt her stomach tighten at the sight of her best friend's enchanted face.
"Hey, I'm Lu-"
"You're Luka. Luka, yeah I know. We've met before. I'm Chloe." She interrupted him and shook his hand.
"Oh, the granddaughter from New York, yeah I remember you. Our families used to spend New Years together." He responded, slightly relaxing. Marinette watched Luka closely, irked.
"That's right." She nodded with a small smile.
"Wow, you look... different," Luka said before he could stop himself and Marinette gulped by his side. A sudden need to speak up struck her.
"Puberty." She said casually and shook Chloe's hand rather harshly. Adrien sniggered.
"I'm Marinette. I live down the street and we've never met... ever." She went on coldly. Chloe was growing uncomfortable.
"So, um." Luka cleared his throat, in an attempt to ease the tension. "Are you just visiting?"
"Oh, uh, yeah. My grandfather's aorta collapsed and they had to replace it with this plastic tube, so my parents sent me to help for a while." She responded, ripping her eyes off of his. There's something odd about her, Marinette thought.
"So you'll be going to school here, then?" Luka asked, hope evident in his voice. Marinette was growing more and more irritated.
"Um, yeah. Tenth grade."
"Cool, us too." Adrien joined in with a soft smile. Marinette faked a smile too.
"Yeah." Luka tried to keep the conversation going, failing miserably.
"Oh good. Um, look, my Grams is waiting. I should go. But it was really nice to meet you guys. I guess I'll see you in school." Chloe finally told them and the boys nodded. Marinette didn't care.
"If not sooner." Luka ended up saying as Chloe started walking towards the house right next to his. Adrien observed his best friend in amusement and laughed.
"If not sooner." Marinette mimicked Luka and turned on her hill, stomping in the direction of her step-dads bakery. She couldn't care less about Luka's unfinished project at the time.
"Nice," Adrien told Luka as he elbowed him gently and the latter chuckled. The boys seemed to have forgotten about it as well.
"Come on, let's go inside." Luka finally said, dragging Adrien towards his house.
"So? She's pretty, I can tell you liked her. Do you think she's a virgin? Would you-"
"Wow wow, slow down." Luka laughed at him as they entered his room. "What are you talking about? We just met!"
"And a wasted moment it was. Greater men would be nailing right now, you know what I mean?" Adrien joked and Luka groaned, collapsing on his bed.
"Tact, look it up." He responded, his voice holding a note of playfulness. Adrien simply laughed.

As Marinette neared the bakery her thoughts were dancing wildly in her head.
What the hell! This girl shows up and in mere seconds Luka turns into this.. this lurking weirdo! She thought with a scoff.
"Oh, Mari good, you're here." Sabine sighed in relief the minute Marinette stepped inside the bakery.
"Did you have fun, honey?" The short woman kissed her adoptive-daughters cheek tenderly and Marinette smiled at her.
"Uh, yeah, it was fine." She said. Sabine knew better than this but didn't want to pressure the raven-haired teenager. She'd speak her mind in her own time.
Sabine gave Marinette her pink apron and the girl went to help Tom through the baking.
"Hey sweetie, how's Luka?" Tom grinned when he caught Marinette approaching him.
"He's good. Getting dumb. I'm afraid he's turning into Adrien." She responded, whispering the latter mostly to herself. Tom's tall figure shook with laughter.
"Don't worry, boys your age are like that. I swear to you, he'll come to his senses soon." He told her reassuringly and she giggled. "Besides, maybe Adrien isn't as bad as you think. Adolescence is crucial."
"Yeah, sure." She simply said before she tied her dark locks in a low bun and got to work.
